Welling Sign Two More

Jody Brown, manager of Vanarama Conference club Welling United, has boosted his squad with two more new signings this week.

Karl Duguid and Anthony Jeffrey have both joined the Wings subject to the approval of final paperwork.

Duguid enjoyed a successful Football League career with Plymouth Argyle and Colchester United, where he is known as something of a club legend, while Jeffrey started his career at Arsenal and was playing for Wycombe Wanderers only last season.

Reacting to the signings, Brown said: “Anthony has been in at a League club for a long time trying to earn a pro deal, so is in good condition, and has everything we need in terms of his attacking attributes.

“I watched him last year for Wycombe against Portsmouth and could see he has great pace and a good attitude.

“In his short spell in the Conference South last season with Boreham Wood he was prolific and a manager from that level told me that he felt he was as good an attacking player as there was in that league.

“He comes here with a point to prove, he’s hungry to succeed and since he has been training with us, he has adapted very quickly. I think he will prove to be a match-winner.

“Karl has huge experience and only recently left his role as first-team player-coach at Colchester.

“He knows his way around both relegation battles and promotion charges. He’s an extremely fit person, knows the game from many different perspectives and is versatile enough to play in three or four different positions.

“He has been training with us for nearly three weeks now so it’s not been rushed and he is ready to go. In time, he may well add support to the coaching staff but initially he comes here to play and has earned that right on the training ground.”

Brown has still not ruled out bringing in another face to Park View Road as he continues to reshape the small he inherited when he took charge of the Wings.
