Looking Forward

Reading the article on the Echo site tonight, things ain’t too clever with Jeff and some of the players. Could be half a dozen new faces to come in. My thoughts, but of those who do, I would like to see a proven out and out striker and a hard tackling defensive midfielder. At the back, I would like us to give this area greatest thought. Overall Gravesend were very “miserly” at the back, conceeding 33. Although Burton’s task was probably easier in their division, they conceeded 30. We conceeded 41. In a lot of cases, the teams that conceed less win their division. To ensure we do next season, a big step will be to make us defensively “miserly” as Gravesend/Burton, but to get all positions right will be hard to balance.

should make the pre season frdlys a lot more interesting..i have to agree defensivly but watching the free scoring team of this season has been great fun, in any normal season we would have been safe with 95 points.. but big changes to come , maybe if just this once we win our first home game of the season that will be an omen

heard that rumour also. But you never know at Canvey. I trust Jeff, though, to have a competetive squad ready for next seasons campaign.

Whatever happened to Waynes form. Is it too much to hope that he gets some of it back for next season.

Also Danny Bolt looks like he will settle in well.

What a great season it's been - hats of to G&N they were the better team in the end. But going back to the movements next season:<p>We all know Stimmo is off to Grays - in my opinion I think Buzz will join him.<p>I've heard rumours of Jason Dozzel and Justin Edinburgh but I think these maybe a bit far off.<p>The recovering Lee Matthews is out of contract at D&R and I think he might come our way maybe in exchange for Boylan. I see Gary Hill on one of my many trips to the bar on Saturday and maybe just maybe he's after him??<p>I have heard no rumours but I think in my opinion Millsie will go, along with probably Tilly and Duffers.<p>Looks like a whole new team next season then!!! It's getting a bit like Dream Team (their entire squad changes every series!!)<p>What does anyone else think??

Although it was close, I’m not sure if G&N were the better team but maybe equal overall. Their defensive record was better than ours though. Excuses time, but our first meeting came too soon after the Burnley game but the second game was won on class.<p>On your movements if they are correct, you can see that Grays will already be strong promotion candidates. As for the others going you have mentioned, they are also going to be hard to replace.<p>What I would like to see are players coming in who are not too well known and have just failed to make it at a higher level. With hope they will still be hungry to achieve success for themselves and our club in future.

Well I suppose I should add my views on who will be going and possible new arrivals.<p>Going:

We all know about Stimmo.

Wayne Vaughan was a pretty good bet some time ago.

Peter Smith, a surprise to some.

Bodds looks like he will struggle in reaching the same quality after his op, hope I’m wrong.

Thommo, I reckon he will depart for a team further up the county.

Benno, I have mixed feelings about what is going to happen with him but will log him here for now.

Boylan, Such a shame that we will not be holding onto him but am sure that he will be on the move.

Cobb, could fall into this category.

Tilson, borderline.<p>New:

As already stated the two ex Spurs players Jason & Justin.

Scott Forbes, a hope, but we will see.

Have some thoughts on a couple of others but best not mentioned as yet.

David Gregory, looks a good bet.

Would expect at least one big surprise player.<p>Lets not count the chickens.

Rumours have been going around for the last couple of months or so and I am going to jump on the band wagon, I heard from a very reliable source from Canvey the following.<p>GOING'S<p>Tilly - Still struggling with his knee and may not make next season<p>Bodders - Still struggling wiht his knee like Tilly<p>Vaughny - No real shock he is not very happy and will probably move on(A shame as if the next one is true we would need a Vaugny of the 2000 - 01 season raring to go next year<p>Boylan - Still not signed a new contract, I would hope if he leaves he climbs the ladder a lot higher than D&R.<p>Stimo - Not a rumour anymore<p>Smithy - He was coming back from an Injury and All I can assume is that Jeff & Glen felt he was not back to full fitness in time for the last game of the season.<p>STAYING & COMING'S:<p>Miller - Signed a new contract, I think they said 3 Years (Brilliant news, All you have to do is look how distraught he was after the Braintree game to see how much it means to him.<p>Dave Gregory - A very steady player how receives good ratings in the paper playingmin Division 2 or 3.<p>Jason Dozzell - Should be good if has come back from his injury<p>Justin Edingburgh - Maybe following dozzell but he is also linked with Grays<p>A.N. ANOTHER - The source either did not know or would not say who it was ??<p>It would be a great shame to split up a very succesfull team but if we replace quality with Quality we will surely be just as strong and if we can bring the average age down a little that must help as well.<p>Sorry for babling on but I would like to know if anyone can add to these names or maybe even squash these rumours !!!

I want to know who Jeff had lined up to come if we did actually make it into the Conference!!<p>I mean we are still in the Ryman and we have:

Dozell (Spurs, Colchester), Edinburgh (Spurs, Peterbrough), Gregory (Colchester) & Forbes (Southend) all rumoured to be coming.<p>No doubt we will have a few young trialists from Ipswich, Spurs etc trying to prove themselves during the pre-season too.<p>Who knows what our team will be made up of next year!!!<p>Players I think should stay although I may not like all of them are:<p>Thommo, Boylan, JK, Vaughan, Knight, Miller, Bolt & Johnson. (All are the better side of 25). Plus the experience of Gregory & Cheners.

Well that again is enough to get other fans moaning on the message board. Well can you believe that St Albans fan, Zeal is it? Telling us where we will finish. They will need to work on survival in the Ryman Prem.

Whoops! Slight mistake. Justin Edinburgh plays for Portsmouth, not Peterbrough.<p>I see in the Echo tonight Grays want Smith & Vaughan.

From PompeyFC.co.uk, dated 3rd May....<p>"JUSTIN EDINBURGH FORCED TO RETIRE

Pompey defender Justin Edinburgh has lost his battle to recover from a persistent achilles heel injury and, after specialist consultations, today announced that he is retiring from playing. The 32-year old is to join his former club Tottenham Hotspur as a coach."<p>

Draw your own conclusions.<p>------------------------------------------
