It looked like it was all going to come to a boring end but wait
Canvey have hit their wall, Gravesend are well into a stride the 'Ricay have found the RIGHT net - alls very unwell at the Shots (so at least some things are "normal" including Hendons annual pitch problems)
anyone care to predict the following:
Who will win the league

When will Borgy do a runner

Will Ricay manage three wins in a row

How many postponed's before Hendon finally get a home game

It's nice to see plenty of smiles at New Lodge today The longer the run without a league win went on the more it became an albatross around our neck so now we've won hopefully the players confidence will return and we can get a good run going!
As to your questions...

1) Gravesend. Unquestionably the best team to visit New Lodge this season.
2) Never. He'll wait for the sack so he can get a nice juicy pay off.
3) If we're alowed to include tuesday's ESC win over Witham then Saturday when we travel to Boring Wood.
4) Who knows. We've been there so no worries for us on that score. Our cunning tactic of getting out of all the cups has paid off as we can now spend almost all our midweeks in a pub instead of freezing on the terraces watching some dire league cup match/trophy tie/ league fixture pile up!

Congratulations on your win today. In answer to the questions:
1) I still think Canvey will win the league.
2) We live in hope that it will happen soon - tonight would be nice - PLEASE MR BORG DO THE DECENT THING
3) Don't get too carried away smile.gif" border="0
4) Its just our luck to draw them in the League Cup. We can't arrange other games because this one keeps being rearranged and so on - Why not play it at Billericay - they've not got anything to do midweek. wink.gif" border="0

mmm i still think we can win the league...we have never actually been clear on points over G and N only ahead due to playing 1, or at time 2 more games.. only in the last week of 2001 did we get effectivly clear by 2 points ... G and N had played 2 games left so were 8 adrift.. we lose 2 they win three all change, i hope we can effect the same thing in the coming weeks.. we need at the very least to stay close enough to keep real pressure on..
Borg wont leave aldershot..for him its one of the top 5 jobs in non league footy.. hes been around long enough to know that when next season starts a few wins will get people behind him again, if he can stay challenging for the title next season he may be around for another 2 years

i think riccay can get on a roll now.. the new stadium plans (whilst i havnt seen any details of em yet) seemed to have rejuvenated all involved with the club for now

looking at the weather forecasts for the rest of this month it could be a while, at least we dont have to go there till march have a good upcoming week gentlemen

With Canvey, Aldershot, Braintree and Chesham all losing and us banging them away against Enfield this has all put me in an optimistic mood but think of this:

We win our game in hand, 4 points ahead.

We beat canvey again at home, putting us 7 points ahead going into to the last month and half/two months of the season
Hell I can dream can't I? It's that Enfield barmaid and the singing all the way home thats done it...

St. Albans will win the leauge as while your all dropping points the suspention mean the game sin hand are mounting - we'll come back win them take the division (then of course be refused entry into the confrence on financial reasons)
Borg is a muppett has been **** for years but as no-one has ever noticed yet any team that employs him deserves all they get
Well with a stroke of luck our game with ricky will go ahead on the 02/02/02 so as long as they are not on 2 wins then I don't really care.
One suspects City can be suspended until April and still have less games to play than Hendon.

I see Gravesend drew in the trophy tonight, which presumably means a replay in the next week or so. As I understand it you are also still in the Kent Senior Cup as well - are you risking a fixture pile-up (notwithstanding the fact that the league is reasonably well advanced this year)?
P.S. Have you played at Hendon yet or have you got that postponement to come smile.gif" border="0

We have to visit hendon in the height of the rainy season 16th February, but Canvey have to go there too.
Now that we are out of the league cup we have 4 matches to arrange 3 in the league and one in the KSC.
The KSC is not too much of a problem, as holders we come in in the last 8 and as the final is in May it means at most 2 matches during the season.
The pitch is in good nick so hopefully we won't have any home matches postponed for rain and with luck there will be no more frozen pitches.
It's not a problem - yet smile.gif" border="0

Still too early to say. Either Aldershot, The Fleet or Canvey. All the others should by now concede that they are out of it.
The Borg argument is best dealt with by Shots fans. Only they know whats really going on. In most leagues Aldershot would be well placed. Gravesend and Canvey are having outstanding seasons. There respective records so far both easily deserve promotion. Its a shame that one is to be left behind.
Hendon need to get things sorted. Perhaps another sponserhip deal with Escort magazine wouldent go amiss. Anybody remember that?. More money to spend on the pitch.
What was the other question?.

Fifteen points may sound a lot. On the bad side for them I notice that the crowd size there is starting to fall. If they were to win at Stonebridge Rd and say win six league games on the trott they would be right back in it.

I'll have to give you lessons in arithmetic Luke.
Aldershot can win as many matches as they like, but they won't close the gap unless we lose 5 games more than they do. If we are going to do that, then we are not discussing our chances of winning the league but whether we can finish in the top 6.
The only thing that we need to worry about is can we go throuh the rest of season and only lose one more match than Canvey do. Nothing else is important

Will write off Harrow here and now (you heard it here first).
15 points for Aldershot to make up? Well they could... but I'd be willing to put money on them not.

I think that yet again the weather will be a deciding factor in the league championship outcome - and that will be a shame if weather overrides quality team perfomances - I am still on for a Canvey GNFC Shots - 1-2-3.
Just as long as we don't have to put up with the Ryman league nonsense of last year when common sense was lost when fixtures should have beed re-arranged to suit the clubs and not the league board.
I can see a time when the teams are literally queuing up at Hendon to take their turn before the next rains!

Eh?! Dave, your confusing me now

We're two seperate people thats all I know...
In relation to this thread, no, I don't see Shots getting back into it, its between us two now.

Then again, it was about this time last season it was said that it was between us and Farnborough and that didn't work out...

The way things are going at the moment - I think we'll probably finish 5th or 6th. George Borg has lost the confidence of the fans and I suspect also the players, but I suspect that we cannot afford to sack him since it appears that some bright spark gave him an extension to his contract.

Having said that, watch us win at Gravesend smile.gif" border="0

I, for one, am fascinated to see who will finish top - Canvey are going through a rough patch, but Gravesend are due to have a couple of bad results.
Oh - our League Cup match at Hendon tonight was postponed for the third time.

Essy, r u Carjam in disguise
I admit Aldershot worry me, they are a big club with big support. They should have walked through this league very quickly. Its not the strongest.
The season is only just halfway through. I would love to see 'The Fleet' promoted. Even if it means long away trips, more expense and loosing more often. I have been following them for long enougth to realise that sometimes when the big matches come...things can go wrong. Surely Dave you dont think that Gravesend are going to loose only 1 more game all season. How about Aldershot, Canvey and Grays at home for a start. Then theres places like Sutton, St Albans, Purfleet, Braintree and Hendon. They dont often win at those grounds. 15 away victories in 1986 I believe was our best ever. That was championship form. 19 is unthinkable. Aldershot are still in.
