Wednesday 4th March

DIVISION ONE

3-2 Southall v Welwyn Garden City

What a great result for Southall FC.

You wouldn't have been able to tell which team was top of the League Southall for me matched them in every area and I wasn't that impressed with Welwyn Garden City if im honest. Welwyn showed a lot of energy and looked good on the break but there wasn't much end product and at times they just seemed to kick it the ball high and hope for the best. The game was very scrappy at times but that was to be expected as both teams really needed the 3 points for different reasons. Some very good saves by D.Cassells especially that last one right at the end of the game to deny Welwyn a point. Some of your best form of your career at the moment maybe Dom? also some interesting/good banter between the benches during the second (Tense) half. A great second goal for Southall. Southall had a penalty saved. I thought you were taking the pens Dom?. Southall have a giant at the back in T.Jinadu.

The Southall players celebrated at the end of the game and I over heard the Welwyn manager say you would have thought they had just won the league he should have just taken it as a complement.

A good end to end game.

Thanks SB. I've never had such a long run in a team and its paying dividends. I did float a bit from club to club but am enjoying the Southall project and you do get a bit wiser as you get older.

I was on pens but pulled my groin just before half time I don't know if you noticed but i stopped taking all but goal kicks. Given we missed a 3rd pen in 3 games I probably still should have. Would have killed the game off earlier I think.

Although we definitely deserved the win, you can't argue with their record and I suspect they will win the league and will deserve it for an unbelievable season. They Defo caught us on a good day when everything came together.

Tobi is a mountain, he strikes fear in the tunne,l I see it every week, wins the physiological battle before a ball is kicked.

Southall 3-2 Welwyn Garden City

I must say its been coming for a while - having watched them many times this season Southall have put many teams to the sword but have not finished their chances. Today I thought Southall executed a game plan to the T - and their pace in forward areas were a constant problem for the Welwyn back four. At 3-1 down at half time you knew welwyn would throw everything into the game, but Southall stayed tall and strong throughout and ran out deserved victors although Dom Cassells was needed in the dying moments to claw one out....!!! Welwyn have been outstanding this season and this is a good win for Southall as now the belief in the squad is at an all time high...Thumbs up to the manager, he put a new squad together 5 months ago and they are showing some really good signs...

Really enjoyable game and worth the fiver admission for the 2nd goal alone ! Some stout defending as WGC threw everything at them and considering the pitch was slippy both sides served up a decent game

As SB said, Dom pulled off some good saves to help Southall get the 3 points

Thought the ref had a bit of a mare at times and his lengthy delays meant the game finished after 10 partly due to the delayed kick off due to traffic problems. Took me 90 minutes from Marylebone

Nice to catch up with SB and nice to enjoy the bacon roll and Bovril served, with a smile, by the lady behind the counter. Always a friendly welcome here and look forward to seeing some more of the midweek games

BALDOCK TOWN 1-2 BUSH HILL RANGERS

Last week at Crawley Green, they lost their fourth consecutive game in my presence which led to suggestions that I'm a curse on them. I suspect I'm having the same effect on Baldock where this season's record now stands at P7 W2 D1 L4 with no win in the League for over two months. After kick-off was delayed until 8-00, there wasn't much evidence that either their or my record would improve as BHR took the initiative with the second goal being followed by the sort of goalie/defender exchange that makes me glad I never played at any level. Baldock's goal four minutes before the end was more than what they deserved.

Pleasant chat with Mr. Rusbridge at half-time about the logistics of ground sharing and how Baldock ended up at Hitchin.
