Westfield 1 Colliers Wood 1 full time.

Westfields recent unbeaten league run continues with a one all draw tonight.

Colliers Wood came out of the starting gate with the wind in their sails and pegged Westfield in their own half for the first 15 mins. They caught the Westfield defence knapping and Westfield conceded a very soft goal to give the visitors the lead. Westfield then began to find their shape and steadily the pressure increased and had a good deal of the play for the rest of the first half. The Colliers keeper called into action on a couple of occasions and dealt with any threat very well. It was frustrating as a supporter to see Westfield create many chances that just needed the final touch, unfortunately the ball would not fall right or was just behind the forward etc, and had they have been converted, Westfield could have been 3 or 4 up at the break.

The second half started as it finished in the first with Westfield playing some very good football, the No 3 I thought had an exceptional game tonight and Westfield were learning quickly that they were getting more success in the box by playing to feet instead of high crosses. A gilt edge chance was squandered after the keeper made a very good save and the ball came out to an approaching forward who only had to keep his head over the ball and rip a hole in the back of the net. Unfortunately he played it straight back at the grateful Colliers Wood keeper who safely gathered the ball. Westfield continued to dominate the play and got their just rewards when the referee gave a penalty for a foul just inside the box. It was a very soft decision and all supporters around me agreed it was very dubious. However you have to take such chances and the spot kick was put away superbly leaving the outstretched keeper no chance. Stuart Norman made one important block in the Westfield goal in the second half but apart from that had very little else to do. It remained 1 each at the final whistle which to be fair to Westfield was a poor result as the amount of chances they created, they must be wondering how they did not come away with all Three points.

Credit to both teams who played a very competitive but in no way nasty game and it was just a shame that the referee was too fond of his whistle. He made a few decisions that left the crowd bemused and to be honest I felt he ruined much of the game when he could have let play flow. Well done to Westfield though on another important point and a dogged performance, particularly after going a goal down.

whats gone wrong with the new pitch is it the drainage that is to blame?

Sorry Duncs, must have missed this the other night. The answer is, no one knows. It will have to be dug up in place and relayed I think - the council subbies will definitely have to investigate anyway. It points to an issue with the drainage, but until somebody checks the pipes and what's surrounding them, we're guessing. In fairness, the grounds people did a terrific job getting the game on last night - helped of course by the wind and sunshine - and the pitch played well. I did ask Tony Hurrell to sort it for us pre-match!

All the best to all at CWU for the rest of the season. Nice people.

There seems to be a trend developing with Woking Council built facilities.  Knaphill have had terrible drainage problems previously (yes the canal is probably the biggest culprit) and now Westfield.

Cheers Jellybean. Disappointed tonight as we deserved the points for our overall performance. Still, another point gained.

I think Westfield are looking very good at the moment but lacking just a little composure in the box. That will come right though and they will be the team to beat in the future.  Onwards and Upwards !!

Jelly,so far this season Westfield have been a lot downwards, and a little upwards, although they have improved of late, under their 2nd new Management Team.

Westfield 1-1 Wood - Our report here - http://www.clubwebsite.co.uk/collierswoodunited1874/301423/Matches/report/5691026

Always a pleasure to visit Woking Park and as Pearcey said, nice people (and a decent football team)!

Early arrival at Spelthorne for me on Saturday for Bradford v Reading (FA Cup) before a tough return fixture.

They can always play Saturday  ;) Neutral venue, seriously Chalky Lane is becoming a laughing stock.

I have to agree with you Peter.

I'm sure Alan will look at the possibility.

With no more rain between now and then, it must stand a slim chance of going ahead.

Absolutely, I think it is now 9 consecutive

games unbeaten in the league so they must be doing something right.
