I can't understand the berating of the officials all the time and why do people say they should be stronger at this Level etc etc blah blah, this level is not semi pro and is far from it, the referees are not semi pro either and are far from it and they will make mistakes just like committees, chairman, managers, coaches and players do, we all have decisions go for and against us, but at the end of the season you end up in a position which is determined by winning and losing and you will have decisions along the way that will be annoying and lucky.

Not digging at anyone but I think we have to realise the level that we are involved in is not as good as we think, I'm not saying it's Pub Football, but it's nearer to Pub footbal than Pro football imo.

Clear from the highlights Camberley are still implementing their 3 i's of football... Intimidation, Imitation and Interrogation

Nice bit of clapping in the refs face and sarcastic "Well done ref" which he was totally oblivious to aswell.

You do have to wonder how these referees get the promotions they do. This highlights the need for strong performances at this level and so far the standard we currently have is making a mockery of the league

Just interested to know if you were there Non League i ?

I don't think you needed to be there Kroons Trevs footage was pretty damning and conclusive, the ref quite clearly had a bad game as well as you rightly said

I tend to disagree with his assessment Duncs and while we are no angels I feel his opinion is wrong.  Hence the reason I asked.

On a separate issue, I notice that over the weekend Ashford posted on their website that Staines Lammas are ceasing their ground share at Short Lane.

Does anyone know what's happening to Lammas ? Are they moving to groundshare elsewhere or are they dropping back to Step 7. If the latter then Div 1 gets even thinner .

Indeed, as I also said, I felt it was someone ( the ref) having a bad day at the office, rather than any slight on their competence. Bearing mind the success both sides have enjoyed this season, it was always going to be a competitive affair and so it proved.

As a neutral observer, I didn't feel either side behaved significantly better/worse than the other. It was feisty , yes, but both sides were committed to going for a win and so a bit of needle is almost inevitable, I'd say.

Ellers' post is a well-reasoned and constructive where he's taken a step back to see the bigger picture. Similarly, those who base their views of a player or an official's performance off the back of an edited highlights segment are missing the point for lots of different reasons among those being the fact that it doesn't show the remaining 80 odd minutes during which the individual in question may not have had a bad game and, not a criticism of the cameraman, but it only shows one angle which is unlikely to be that of the official.

In the same way as teams that play consistently well over a season will be in the mix for promotion at the end of it, so the same applies for referees when it comes to promotion. It's not based on one game but a number of games over a period of time which reflects a sustained level of performance in that period. The same for players, teams and managers, etc. During that period, anyone might have an off day so to base criticism of the overall standard of reffing off a few videos is short-sighted and naive.

Ironically, what this footage does show is the similarities between professional and non-league football - the Chelsea v PSG game being the case in point. The ref didn't have the best game but he clearly must be a decent one as he refereed last year's Champions League Final. Equally, neither team covered themselves in glory in terms of their gamesmanship and lack of sportsmanship. It's not difficult therefore to draw some obvious comparisons between both games (particularly if you judge purely off these highlights).

And no, I wasn't there at this game - and yes, some elements look less positive - but I wouldn't slate someone so definitively off the back of this.

Good views as ever Gluck.  As I said I presumed it was an off day as it was the first time I have seen him this season and I would strongly suspect if he had been given 1st and 2nd at this stage of the season he must be near the top of the marking table.  In saying that I still don't think he had a very good game :)

So your compairing a Champions league ref and a CCL one...really,I don't think Mewcenary is ready for CCL Prem and thats why he had a bad game, nothing to do with having an off day he is just not up to it yet,its nice to try and justify why people sometimes are sh1te but it doesn't do anyone any favours.

Plenty turn their hand to playing, managing and all sorts of other things when they're considered not up to it by others. Hopefully he too sees it as a bad day at the office and doesn't dwell upon it. I reckon there's a difference between saying you think someone had a bad day to saying they're not up to the task.

A view from a groundhopper who was attending his first CCL match:

"The match was not helped by an over-fussy referee, who delighted in penalising minor infringements, but who also had a strange reluctance to get his cards out when the more serious fouls occurred. For some reason he also allowed 20 minutes for half-time! Come on mate - some of us have trains to catch!"

Kroons I wasnt at the game hence why i didn't comment on the result OR the performances of the 2 teams as i am in absolutely no place to do so however my 3 i's comment is based only the few games ive seen of Camberley over the years.

As for the allowance of poor refereeing because some of us believe the league to not be good enough to warrant a competent referee... We must up our overall standards and expectations of the referees as the CCL should merely be a platform for referees to move furthur up the ladder and not just the pinnacle of their career. If this was a one off below par performance from 1 referee i could totally understand the opinion to let it slide but in my opinion the standard of nearly all the referees is not good enough. You may disagree with me as is your right but theres nothing more frustrating then the referee being the talking point of a game

So how / what would you propose to raise the current standards and what are your expectations of referees on the CCL?

As is the football league system of promotion a pyramid with the pointy end the pinnacle so the referee promotion system is the same. However, some teams though will reach their natural level within it in the same way as some referees will too. That doesn't make their contribution any less valid or valued at their respective level, and they might recognise for whatever reason that reffing on the CCL Prem is as far as they will get and that's fine. Equally, they might use the league as a stepping stone to higher levels as a number of refs have done, and that's fine too.
