Northwich Victoria boss Jim Gannon was delighted to see his side come through a tough fixture against Ossett Town.

Second half goals from Josh Amis and Reece Fishwick gave the Vics a win and Gannon admitted that it was gained by their "work ethic and endeavour".

"I knew before the game that this would be a difficult fixture. Ossett Town are a good young team with some excellent qualities to their play. I expected a tough game and with a very difficult pitch it was hard for the players to get a hold of the ball and build any flow, passing attacks or constructive play throughout the game.

In the end the result was determined by our work ethic and endeavour. We kept working hard and the simpler more direct transitional counters worked excellent for us. The mobility and running power of our front three meant we also had a threat through their attacks in central areas"

The former Stockport County boss was a relieved man to see Town fail to capitalise on their best moments during the game and revealed that a little tactical tinkering helped his side come away with the points.

"We could have put us into an early lead with the chance you mention in your report in the second half when put through on goal but eventually Josh broke through and scored with an early shot to catch young Brad Dixon off guard and finish with great effect.

Ossett had some good phases in their attacking play but unfortunately for them their good approach play and pressure wasn't matched with their finishing during their good spell. After the goal we reformed our midfield to be a little tighter and the defence dealt with their more direct play quite well, and as a team we defended from set-plays very well.

It was another hard-earned win and clean sheet, and that proved to be the platform for another three points. It was great for the team and young Reece that we got another well worked goal that meant the points were sealed"

With deadline day now passed Gannon gelt that some of his new additions will provide extra support for the Vics promotion push with a nailbiting final few weeks of the Evo-Stik League season in store. He described their win over Town as "important" and pointed to the return of some key players as a reason to keep confidence high.

"In the context of the other results in the league it was an important three points. It keeps the good run of form going and keeps confidence high going into a crucial run of games over the coming weeks. A few other positives have came out of the game.

A number of squad players got some further game time and have worked their way into the fabric of the team. We also had the return to fitness of players like Abou Sanogo and with Cedric Krou, Guy Ansah-Palmer and Brian Summerskill approaching full fitness; it means we are gaining some strength in depth throughout the squad.
