What do most people judge a League by in 2015,is it the Standard of Play,Crowd numbers, knowing what teams play in a League,Clubs achievements in various Cup Competitions. How up to date Websites are in this digital Age, is very important for the product to be sold to the masses, even Marks and Spencers have finally realized that.

Well it is nice to know that Abbey Rangers and Horsley FC should be joining Div 1 next season,as the CCL Grounds Committee have inspected the grounds, and requested that the F,A, allow them admission.News gleaned from the Official CCL Website posted 1st April.

No mention of Windsors Cup Final,or great result last night, and the thing with websites if you go their once, and nothing has changed in a while, you rarely return.

Personally think that Clubs should at the next A.G.M.request that someone is paid, nothing crazy to be a Web Administrator, out of the money the League take in League Fees and Fines. They must move into the 21st century.

2.The restoration of Team of the Month,When I first watched CCL Football there was an award,is there still one? as it's not publicised.

The reason being that it could be for improved performance on the pitch i.e results,it could be for improved Facilities i.e new stand,it could be for improved discipline,as they do fine Clubs,A certificate,a cash payment once a month for both divisions, would give teams with little to play for a goal to achieve.

Abbey yes, Horsley no. Horsley didn't apply and only one team can come up from each Step 7 league anyway. There were two applications from the Surrey Elite - Balham were the other team - but they've withdrawn their application.

Since that piece was written results mean that Abbey can't finish lower than fifth so they're up.

On the Question for the CCL League Topic

Lazarus comment

I am not sure myself if any club finishing as low as 5th (say) in a division of 16 clubs should be promoted.

Well the Elite League have 15 teams and Abbey Rangers are 4th and will struggle to catch the top 3 so will finish 4th or 5th

I assume they will not be promoted then!

The Rules for promotion from Step Seven are different.

Yours is still a good point though. We'll see how well Abbey get on next year but if they do struggle it would make an interesting discussion.

Having seen Abbey, I think they will be fine.

Just taking your point on a bit CC, if a team who are going to be third / fourth / fifth in a Step Seven League will be fine in Step Six, is there any point to Step Six anymore? It sounds like 6 and 7 are not too dissimilar.

My projected reshuffle, admittedly a year out of date now, removed the step entirely and moved the top sides in Step Six up. The theory behind it was that Step Seven clubs really did need to be good enough to win or may be come runners up in their league to move into the "Sections" or they would struggle. I still think that is fairer even though it might mean that Abbey would have had to wait a little longer until they were of a better standard.

For those who haven't seen it, by all means have a look. The principle is unchanged even if, as I say, the teams are a year out of date. The last I heard from Mike Appleby at the FA it was still one of a few schemes under consideration for a reorganisation of the non-league structure which hadn't been attempted since 2004.

To move the top sides up from step 7 will never happen one reason why they have promotion from top 5 at that level is they know Teams like Battersea Ironsides will never ever go up,unless the ground grading is relaxed. Its similar to what we have at Step 6 in the CCL at present. It's more about protecting numbers in leagues, rather than moving forward.

Excellent Article though Rich, how about you running the CCL Website, for a small retainer  ;)

I am currently working on something that takes up a lot of my time at present in addition to the Epsom history. I am working on two League archives at present, an Isthmian one and a CCL one.

The archives will contain every result, every date, every attendance (where possible) and every League Bulletin I can get hold of. This was why I requested the Bulletins recently and am still looking for older ones. It will take me about two years from this point but could be longer as I try tracing odd results here and there, especially the end of season ones. My current Epsom archive is filling up but if you include that too I have to find approximately a million pieces of information to fill it up completely. As you might imagine, this will take time to input!

The real difficulty that the CCL website faces is that there are already a number of sites where information is advised very quickly. It probably needs to be real time and for that to work you require someone who is prepared to sit at home instead of going out and watching the football. That isn't me I'm afraid, even for a large retainer :)

Rich, something has to change can't keep going a long the way it is.

It's funny you say that Andy, as some people want change while others want change in the opposite direction. Some want more games, others want less and there are many who are happy with the current state of play. I would desperately love playoffs to be introduced at Step Five but it isn't possible while we have 14 into 6 and many others who represent clubs higher up couldn't care less about our level. Understandably I suppose as we all look at our own areas first.

Now, a pyramid with a 1-3-9-27 format is something that would work. It does send some teams back to the County Leagues, but as my section format allows for 18 teams, the FA could always increase that to 20 so less are sent down.

Whether the FA will grasp the nettle will be interesting, but until we will all waste hours of our time on various forums discussing the whys and wherefores!

When the F.A. EVENTUALLY announce exactly whats going to happen at the end of this season, then maybe, just maybe, we'll get some idea of the way forward.

Could be interesting !

I should hope so. The Hellenic League has full time staff. The CCL are volunteers doing it in their spare time.

As many of you will know I approached the league a couple of years ago to re-design the site to make it a bit more appealing and user friendly.

During this transition I added easy to use update pages for Alan Constable so that he could add news items himself.  I appreciate that Alan also his own life to lead and that all these updates and changes should not fall at his door.

I am proposing a plan to the league that will give club secretaries the ability to add their own updates.  This will be done under a login system and anyone found to be abusing it would be denied access.  This is purely for important announcements and not necessarily match reports.  Once I have spoken  to the league about it we will see if clubs want to use the system.

Millers from Cove has joined Dan Brownlie as first team manager at Hartley - Luke Tuffs is appointed as First Team Coach. Strong management team at Hartley - wonder how many from Cove will wander across.
