Hendon had an early scoring chance when a free kick gave a home player a free header, which went wide of the goal.

Two minutes later Charlie Goode gave Hendon the lead.

Hornchurch introduced Thomas Gogo for Danny Johnson and Hendon Adam Wallace for Aaron Morgan.

Hornchurch nearly levelled the score within seconds when Tobi Joseph moved along the wing and pulled the ball back to George Purcell, whose first time shot skimmed the bar.

Hornchurch continued to press and two minutes later a Purcell free kick reached Frankie Curley, but a defender blocked his header.

As Hornchurch continued to press, Joey May swung a corner over, which Billy Roast headed against the bar. Reece Beckles-Richards followed up with another header, but the ball went over the bar.

Hendon came back a minute later, and Sam Mott saved well to keep the ball out of the net.

Hendon won a penalty on 31 minutes and although Mott saved the kick, Kezie Ibe followed up to place the ball into the net.

Hornchurch came forward again, and on 42 minutes a Purcell free kick was well saved by Daniel McNicholas.

A minute later Joey May made a fine run through the defence only to pull his shot wide of the goal.

Almost on half time Purcell made another excellent run and crossed into the goalmouth, but there was no one to provide the finishing touch.

Immediately after the interval home keeper McNicholas was again in action, saving once again from Purcell.

And on 49 minutes it was once again McNicholas, making an excellent save from a hard Billy Coyne volley.

On 55 minutes Frankie Curley became the first player to go into the referee’s book, and shortly afterwards McNicholas made another good save, once again from George Purcell.

Hornchurch kept up the pressure and their reward came on 64 minutes when Tobi Joseph fired in at the near post.

Two minutes later Joey May combined with George Purcell, who prodded the ball over the line at the far post to level the score.

On 70 minutes Courtney Homans was booked, along with Hendon’s Andre Da Costa and Michael Murray.

Hendon regained the lead on 80 minutes through Adam Wallace, who broke away to score after Hendon had completely dominated the play.

Hornchurch almost levelled within seconds, when Purcell volleyed narrowly wide from a Joey May corner, but it was Hendon who scored in the final minute through Leon Smith to secure the three points.

With thanks to Andy Dickinson.
