3 point deduction

http://www.isthmian.co.uk/enfield-town-league-statement-24169/

The Ryman League has been advised by The Football Association that a charge of playing a player who should have been suspended has been made and proven against Enfield Town FC.

Enfield Town has been charged by the Isthmian League with playing an ineligible player and the League is working with the Club over when the hearing should be in order that play-off matches in the Premier Division are disrupted as little as possible.

The Isthmian League will not be issuing any further statement at this time.

So the points deduction won't be confirmed until after the final league game. Makes things interesting for all concerned. Should Town make it into a play-off place then with possible appeals available I'm not sure what the League will do.

Of course, the best outcome for the Ryman League now would be for Town to lose tomorrow and be overtaken by Grays and/or The Met. I wonder whether someone's having a word with tomorrow's match officials......?

Does anyone know whether the communication from the FA to Town back in January was verbal or in writing? If they advised Town in writing to withdrawn AT for two later matches then I'd think any appeal at the FA would be on fairly strong ground.

Or for Town to win and Grays and Met to lose.

I prefer that scenario.

Sunderland never got docked points when they played Ji-Dong Wong in four games where they lost 3 and drew 1.

"Sunderland lost all of them, which was one of the factors in the league's decision-making, along with the fact that the club had reported their own mistake at the first opportunity."

The trouble is that the Isthmian rules don't allow much of a discretion. Its either dock points or replay the games. The easy option for the League is to dock the 3 points. The only other alternative (and, dare I say it,) sensible option in these circumstances would be for the Isthmian League to take no action at all. The fact that they've publicised the FA finding on their site suggests to me that they are going to apply rule 6.9 and deduct 3 points. They may also impose a fine, however, I doubt there'll be any additional penalty points in the circumstances.

We rarely do things the easy way, do we!?!

Spoke with Brad just now and although naturally frustrated to say the least, he, his coaching staff and the players will have a determinatioin about them tomorrow which will point to us getting nothing less than 3 points v's Witham. They want to win so so much for the suppoorters and all the dear volunteers at the club who have put their time and efforts into such a successful campaign.

I believe we will get the 3 points. Then common sense must prevail, the support for Enfield Town's case is unanimous even from the Gray's forum they can't believe they could get an unexpected play off opportunity in such farcical circumstances.

However if we and the football community see us as not wrong doing then surely the Ryman League can see it too.

As for Papa-Naff Off fella

Nothing to do with the Ryman League, they're only following previous protocol and dishing out the punishment in their rule book after FA found us guilty.

As said above, win the appeal with the FA. However, that's likely to be a few weeks away I'm guessing. Or longer after the FA file our paperwork with their electricity bill.

Looking at your predicament from the outside, and bearing in mind that precedent says the game will not be replayed, or the points awarded to Hendon and you get deducted three points, may I humbly suggest the following....

Firstly, get behind the team and make sure you win today.

Then see what happens in the play offs... If you don't win and qualify for the Conference South, the loss of three points won't be particularly crucial.

If you should win the play offs, then it becomes worth fighting the decision all the way to the high court.

I did hope that when Purf..sorry Thurrock had a similar problem a couple of years back, the FA would have sorted their system out by now.

All the best.

I see what you're saying essexboy but if Grays and/or Met police finish within three points of us do you think they'll be happy to let us play in the play offs or will they seek to delay them until the issue is resolved?

I don't see how the play offs can go ahead next week unless we finish more than three points clear, which would require Hornchurch to win at Met Police and Grays to lose or draw at Kingstonian. Any other scenario can't be resolved in the time available.

This is all down to the FA changing its mind on the January decision and taking months to do so. But you can be sure they won't be the ones who suffer.
