Michael 'Mick' Longhurst - R.I.P.

Recommended Posts

I am sad to have to report that I learnt yesterday evening of the sudden death of Mick Longhurst.

Mick was a former Vice President of Dorking Football Club.  Regular visitors to Meadowbank before it's closure are sure to have met and probably talked to.him.

He had been a Councillor on Mole Valley District Council for many years, and indeed was standing for re-election at next Thursdays poll.  He was a fierce supporter of DFC in council meetings, always fighting their corner in times of trouble.

We had many things in common, both staunch Chelsea supporters and spent many an hour discussing the joys and disappointments of football, both Premier and Non-League.  I was talking to him and his wife only last Monday, and my eldest daughter, a key member of Dorking Ladies was talking to him as recently as last Thursday evening.

His passing at home yesterday morning was sudden and totally unexpected.

My condolences to his wife, Olive and all his family.

R.I.P. Mick.
