The encouraging thing on the whole thread for me is that no-one has said that being gay is an issue. Like I said before , attitudes have changed for the better in this country.

I just have to say that on Monday afternoon, my wife and I spent a pleasant afternoon in the garden of a local pub with two late middle-aged gay men who are in a partnership.  Unless you knew them well, you wouldn't even suspect their orientation.

 

The conversation was witty and amusing, and the lager was cold.  A great afternoon.

Just saw this though last post is a week old. The second being straight is criminalised somewhere in the world, I say start a straight pride! The second teenagers start killing themselves because they are bullied for being straight, again, start a straight pride. Until then, be thankful people born straight don't need one.

 

Even in contemporary society, the fact that its put to a vote in Ireland, in America, means that equality is far from off. People were effectivley voting to decide if some peoples love was more important than others?

 

As for the comment that Pride just disrupts London and ends up needing a huge clean up, local businesses and local people love Pride, they also love the multi million pounds extra they get from Pride.

 

So anyway, at the very least, lighten up, its a great excuse to get drunk in the daytime, and long may it continue,

Agree on the disruption in London, that's not an issue for me. However I don't think that you can use the U.S. and in particular Ireland to compare with England - Catholiciscm still has an influence there and will affect people's perception of homosexuality. Attitudes are different in this country and although not perfect I truly believe we've come a long way.
