Hookey
Not exactly bird related but today the wife and I went to West Canvey Marsh RSPB, where upon she saw her first Adder. The look on her face was priceless. It was just sitting there basking in the sun, so we kept our distance (About 10-15 feet) so as not to spook it. Amazing creatures. Big J R
.... and completely harmless IF you leave them alone. They are more frightened of you than you are of them. There are many in the hilly areas around Dorking, especially where the sand breaks through the clay. I couldn't tell you how many I have seen in my fairly long life. Approach and watch them slowly and quietly. One word of warning ! When warmed up and fully alert, they can move EXTREMELY quickly.
Hookey
Yeah, I was very respectful of their capabilities and didn't disturb him (it was definitely a male).
