After helping Brighouse Town win promotion into the Evo-stik Northern Premier League last year and consolidate their new status last term, experienced defender Martin Allison has joined manager Paul Quinn's coaching team.

Allison, won the Northern Counties East Premier Division title after arriving at St Giles Road two seasons ago following spells with Ashton United in Conference North and both Mossley and Ossett Albion in EVO-STIK NPL First Division North.

He will continue to be registered as a player and will work alongside Adam Hewlett who has agreed to continue in a temporary role as Quinn's strength and conditioning coach.

Quinn said: "Martin has a lot to offer us as a club and we sat down and had a good chat at the end of last season and Martin accepted the role of player-coach. We have always managed to add a different dimension to the coaching set-up in the close season and Martin's experience both on and off the field will be crucial if we are to meet our targets this season.”

Town's preparations for the new season continue on Saturday with supporters due to take part in the second of two working party days to give the ground a summer makeover.

A club spokesman said: "Their are lots of jobs to be completed at the ground from painting to grass cutting to general tidying and maintenance. We would welcome any assistance to enable the club to be ready for the opening pre-season fixture on Saturday 10 July."
