Skipper moves on for personal reasons

Witton Albion captain John Shaw has left Wincham Park to play elsewhere when the new Evo-stik Northern Premier League season kicks off.

Signed from Marine in October 2014 after establishing himself at the heart of their defence and skippering the Mariners, the versatile full-back, left the First Division North club on Tuesday after asking manager Scott Dundas to release him from his contract for "personal reasons".

Dundas said: "I only want players at Witton Albion who are prepared to fight and show commitment together as a team. If players are not prepared to do that, they simply will not be at Witton Albion. The football club and I wish John well in his future."
