Nelson boss focusing on opening day

With just over a week to go until the start of the 2015/16 campaign, Nelson manager Mark Fell is fully focussed on a tough NWCFL opening day trip to Runcorn Town.

Fell has added 6 new signings in the summer so far to his Admirals squad, plus the re-emergence of Nat Taylor who after 2 years out with a broken leg is back to fitness,

"Nat will be like a new signing for us, he's worked extremely hard in the summer and has come back at a level of fitness that he can play with, he's still some work to do, and after the injury he had you can't expect things to happen overnight. It may be that we see Nat back to his best in October or November, but for me there is no rush, he's nothing to prove here, he just needs to sensibly get back to full fitness."

Other signings include striker Andy Bell who opened his pre-season account with a brace against Rochdale Town at the weekend and Fell is hoping not to just have to rely on his strikers for goals, "we need more goals from midfield that's for sure, if you look at sides like Glossop last season, that had a centre half who got nearly 20!, obviously if the front men can hit 20 or 30 a piece it can be massive." Fell also expects additional front line reinforcements before the season kicks off

"we've got a couple of additional forwards we can potentially bring it, we've got great options already with Peter Wright, Andy Bell, Paul Fildes and Adam Nuttall but what we don't have is a big target man so we've been looking at having that option should we need it" But the priority for the Blues is to strengthen at the back and Fell says he will have at least one additional defender in before the 8th.

On the non-playing front the Admirals chief was left without an assistant this week with Tim Breaker departing his post to work for the FA, and Fell says it will be strange in the dugout without him, "when you've worked so closely with someone throughout management it's going to be a bit weird initially.

Ive always felt our way of working was a very successful one, Tim brings a whole host of qualities we don't have amongst the staff, his attention to detail is phenomenal and he'll be a great loss to me in that role. But he has a fantastic opportunity in an area he's very passionate about and he couldn't turn the role down when it was offered, Tim won't leave the club, he will still operate as part of the management structure but in a role that isn't as time consuming and allows for him to focus on his work at the College and the FA."

Fell stressed he will consult with 1st team coaches Andy Hill and Darren Finch before making any decisions but says he is likely to add to his backroom team, "it's not a job you advertise, if you take an assistant manager on its a personal choice, it's the person you work closely with, a soundboard, so it has to be someone who fits into the current structure and brings additional qualities and skills. It's something that will be considered quickly, as ideally, if new personnel are to come in they need to be in for the start of the season."
