FA cup Saturday

Carthorse

Recommended Posts

Following the appalling Shoreham Airshow Tragedy last weekend, and with Horley due to travel to Shoreham FC for an FA Cup Preliminary Round tie this Saturday, Town's 1st Team Manager, Anthony Jupp, has made a very generous proposal.

He has said that if Horley win this weekend, they will donate £500 from their winnings to a fund in memory of the two Worthing Utd footballers killed in the tragedy.

Matthew Grimstone and Jacob Schilt, who lived in Brighton and played for Worthing, were travelling to a game at Loxwood when their car was hit by the Hawker Hunter jet on the A27 north of Shoreham on Saturday afternoon.

Anthony tweeted that he hoped other clubs in the football family might be willing to join Horley in committing to this. With 160 ties this weekend that would mean a total of £80,000 might be possible.

Other clubs interested in joining in should tweet using the hashtag ‪#‎worthing2‬ or reply here.

The club are delighted to support Anthony and the team with this initiative.

Update: Shoreham FC have confirmed that they will match our pledge. We thank them for that. So we now have 1 guaranteed donation of at least £500.

Update(2): The club, with Juppy, have agreed that our contribution will be made through the fund setup by Worthing United FC. Full details here http://www.gofundme.com/bh2pr7dm

A genuine gesture I hope will be mirrored elsewhere. I was in Sussex watching a game in Selsey on the day and in Shoreham the week before. I learned of the tragedy when I returned to London and tomorrow I will be in Sussex again, in Pagham for the hosts' cup tie with Corinthian Casuals. Hopefully football at this level can

demonstrate that it has a generous hard core of people involved in it, led by HorleyTown's announcement of donation, if successful.

I was really impressed with the new stands and pitch at Bedfont Sports FC and im told that they want to go 3g in the near future.

A hard thought win for us today and it could have easily gone to a replay.

went over to my old mates at Hartley and glad i did, what a great result for the HW club and in Ross Cook they have an exceptional talent,Hartley won 5 2 against a very good Banbury side, the game itself had everything and more and only £6 to witness,we had a sending off a missed penalty loads of goals, some good refereeing and some incidents from both benches particuarly from the coach of Hartley (Ha Ha ),all in all the best £6 i have spent in a long time, well done Hartley and thanks to everyone for the great welcome i always get when i visit, top top club.

Shoreham 1 Horley Town 1

Strange game with all that has gone on with Shoreham this week. Shoreham are a very large side with three very big players one 7 foot plus. Both side struggled in the first half with Horley having the better chances but Shoreham having more of the play and looking the stronger. Second half saw Shoreham get awarded a penalty and they scorerd to make it one nil. Town never gave up running and after losing our central defender and changing things around we started to play and started to get back into the game. With twenty to go Leyton Regan hit a powerful shot which the home non stop talking oal keeper fubled into the net much to the delight of the large Horley travelling crowd. Horley contuned tp press but keeper George Hyde pulled of a fantastic save to keep Town in the game. The game finished 1-1 and its a replay on Tuesday night.

Bedfont & Feltham 1-1 AFC Hayes

50/50 game. Either side not really shading it today. Both teams creating chances but losing composure in front of goal. Great team goal from Bedont & Feltham but fell asleep in midfield 2nd half to gift AFC Hayes a penalty after their right back ran un challenged into our box and was cleaned out by Matt Ward.

Replay could go either way Tuesday night. Just hope it's our way as the next leg is a home tie for either side against AFC Rushden & Diamonds.

No surprise on the 'keeper front, after his screaming rant walking off the pitch at half time 3-0 up on the way to 8-0 against St. Francis! Best of luck on

Tuesday
