Fairford boss Davies wary of Ardley backlash in Vase

Fairford Town return to action tomorrow hosting Ardley United in the FA Vase first qualifying round at Cinder Lane.

The Reds go into the game on the back of a testing 90 minutes of County cup action on Tuesday night, which saw a last minute penalty put them on the wrong end of a 2-1 defeat to Cirencester Town Development. Defender James Townsend will miss the Vase game through suspension whilst there is plenty of competition for places across the side elsewhere.

Kevin Brock brings his side to Fairford with recent results going against his usually high flying team. It was only the season before last they were just edged out by Wantage Town for the Premier Division title. But so far this season has seen them win just 1 match out of their first 8 - coming away at fellow strugglers Bracknell Town. Their latest performances last weekend saw them go down 6-0 at home to Blackwell Heath and 3-0 at Brackley Town Saints.

Only four players have registered a goal for United this season in the league whilst they have conceded 16. Overall it seems like a good time to be playing them but of course a wounded animal can also be a most dangerous creature. It promises for an interesting affair. The last time the two met was back in March 2013 at Cinder Lane when the visitors won 2-1 in the semi-finals of the Floodlit Cup.

"Saturday is another cup game and the FA Vase is a competition we are very much looking forward to." Said manager Gareth Davies. "Ardley come here on the back of a few tough results and are a Premier Division side, so hopefully we won't feel the wrath of those results. If we perform like we know we can, then you never know. We need to focus on ourselves and we will select the best squad we can do go out there and do the best for Fairford Town."

The club will be open from 12pm with a range of hot and cold drinks available, as well as the main bar. There are two big screen TVs in the club showing BT Sport so feel free to come along early and relax before kick-off.

Faiford Town Reserves satrt their campaign tomorrow, with a trip to Oxford City Nomads Development team. Nomads Development are the reigning champions of this division so it is a really tough start. Last season saw us lose 5-1 at home and 4-1 away so here's hoping for something better this time out.
