michael Posted September 10, 2015 Share Posted September 10, 2015 I and a few others have touched on this on the facebook site-but debate on there seems to dissolve into videos of dancing dogs-which is fine. I really do think the captaincy is an issue-Nikki Bull is probably a great leader in the dressing room-and i have no problem with him being club captain'but i just fail to see how a goalkeeper works as a captain on the pitch-particularly in a struggling side. I'm not one advocating that the captain should be shouting himself hoarse and blasphening all over the place-but i always believe you need one leader. TB advised us at start of season that we have 11 experienced leaders-implying its not that important. He may be correct-but for me-you need one focal point /leader.It all gets diluted if supposedly 'we are all leaders'. How can Bull organise his players from his goalmouth.arguably-they should all know their roles anyway-but fact is people need organising.defence starts with the forwards being in the right position when opposition have the ball-Bull can't do that . I confess it has been particularly highlighted to me this season;as i live in forest greenland and hence watch them a few times-yep-made a good start-but equally -they have won many games by just the single goal, but either held on ,or clawed back to win. Their captain is the best football captain i have ever witnessed.He is organising everything .not the cliched calls of 'shape' but moving players just a few feet, and really getting players to put bodies on the line. the bodies on the line stuff and captaincy has been worth at least 4 points -they are a decent side-but not that good-but all of a sudden have a never say die attitude-its come from the on field captain. notwithstanding the different level of football-the difference is so noticeable. It seems TB has made his bed on this one and can hardly take the captaincy away from NB now, but i do believe it is a contributor to our difficult start. Think about the Premier League, how many currently playing can you think of? I'd say John Terry and then I'm scratching my head. Maybe the way young men are brought up and educated has had something to do with this? Or maybe it's because players change clubs so frequently now?
