Spelly took the lead after 13 minutes with a good goal following a mazy run by Smith, Bedfont equalised after 60 after some poor defending. Quite a good crowd, well into 3 figures. Chris Clapham Posted September 23, 2015 Author Share Posted September 23, 2015 GROUNDHOPPER REPORT Horley Town 3-0 Sutton Common Rovers (Combined Counties Premier) … played at The New Defence, Horley from 7.45pm Att – knocking on 50’ish (h/c); Entry £7 incl programme (solid basics); Weather – damp after showers and getting cooler; Travel – used A272 and up the back roads of Rusper and Charlwood .. then back around the M23, M25, A3 and A31, in less than another 90 mins .. all clear. Colours – Clarets in their all light blue with claret to torso of shirts .. SCR in all yellow with black hoops mixed in with the stockings. Well last time I saw Horley I liked what I got .. they played over at Westfield in late March and nicked a draw but what caught my eye then was their love of passing the ball .. they didn’t disappoint again tonight, with young Ashley Nadesan catching the eye with his clever runs and skills, linking everyone together. Ironically the New Defence was similar to Westfield’s ground .. being part of a new leisure centre (nice pool here) and ample parking .. with a stand alone solid two storey modern curvy roof over Clubhouse and a poked out overhang to three rows of seating .. it was all good stuff to take up a position and enjoy the game .. but SCR were going to have to up their game tonight .. unfortunately for the Commoners, I’d seen their opener against Colliers Wood on the rubberised and it didn’t go well .. after tonight .. it was still not going well. Play got underway with normal exchanges before an unsuspecting break for the Clarets saw Leyton Regan chase down a break, for what looked like a ball going out for a goal kick but he managed to get a foot round the ball and square “it” .. the “it” bit went in .. must of put some strong spin on “it” or something .. as “it” fooled the keeper .. hit the far post and turn into the net .. a very neat opener. Rest of the half unfolded with Commoners gaining some momentum and putting Horley on the back foot .. their best chance came hitting a post when easier to score on 41 minutes. In the second it was the passing play of the Clarets that got a foot hold first .. through ball on 51 was calmly dispatched into bottom right by Ryan Brackpool .. then young Leyton was at “it” again squeezing a shot under the keeper around the 67 minutes mark .. which lead to some smaller younger subs coming on for Horley to see out the game but forced back to defend a much stronger Commoners finish, who blasted over and had a few body blocks for the Clarets defence to deal with .. but they stood up well and kept their clean sheet .. unlike the Ref who was still ticking off yellow’s for dessent and the players dislike to his whistle blowing at confusing decisions. All in all though a very enjoyable game, with Horley Town now tucked into fourth place .. I look forward to seeing how their season develops, up against the likes of Ashford Town and Hartley Wintney .. who look like they are setting a perfect standard towards the top of the table .. aupostie Posted September 24, 2015 Share Posted September 24, 2015 Farnham Town 3 Ash Utd 1 Early cup exit but a battling performance First half Farnham had alot of the ball created several good chances but the Ash keeper made a couple good saves to keep Farnham from scoring. On the break Ash caught the young Farnham defence on the odd occasion but couldn't find the net & at ht goalless. Within a minute of the second half poor marking from a Farnham corner & the ball was headed home to give them the lead. Ash showed some character & equalised with a well worked goal. However this seemed to get Farnham going & they regained the lead when again ash got exposed at the back. Never out of the game ash until the last ten minutes when Farnham got thier third. Good luck to Farnham in the next round A good battling performance by ash but the lack of discipline is going to hurt us more in other games as we was lucky the referee let us off with many stupid tackles, on another day easily could have had players off, we must have the richest players the areas as they keep throwing money away. Bronco Posted September 25, 2015 Share Posted September 25, 2015 Good report aupostie. Whilst the number 10 took his goal really well, he looks like fouling every time he goes near the ball. I am sure there is no malice as he always apologises and there seems to be no intent, but a foul is a foul and he could have walked. As could the number 5 who could end up hurting someone.
