PHOENIX SPORTS  3  HORNCHURCH  5

George Purcell was fouled in the first minute. He took the free kick himself and Steve Phillips saved well.

After a Joey May corner had gone untouched across goal, a neat through ball from Purcell sent Tobi Joseph clear, but the flag went up for offside.

Hornchurch went ahead on 12 minutes when a long throw from Billy Coyne was finished off by Abs Thompson, and a minute later Jed Chouman was fouled, but the referee allowed advantage, and Thompson played the ball back to George Purcell, out on the right, and George scored with a typical Purcell special.

David Knight had a chance to make it three when he moved on to a free kick, but his shot was high and over the bar.

In their first sortie into the Hornchurch half, Michael Jenner fired a free kick hard into the wall, and Jed Chouman tackled well as the ball ran loose to a home forward.

Hornchurch continued to press forward. A May free kick found Knight, and his shot rebounded to Dave Collis, whose follow up shot came back off the post.

Phoenix began to come more into the match as an attacking force, but both Purcell and Joseph went close before the home side pulled a goal back when the ball was played in from the left, and it was only cleared as far as Harrison Carnegie, who promptly put the ball back and into the net.

Mott then saved a Freeman free kick, but in stoppage time Hornchurch twice came close to scoring. On both occasions it was George Purcell, whose first attempt was blocked, and his second shot met the same fate thirty seconds later.

The second half started badly, when Billy Coyne went down close to the half way line and after a lengthy spell of treatment, he was replaced by Leon Smith, who moved into the middle with Jed Chouman going to right back.

The third goal soon followed, when Junior Luke took a long throw, Tobi Joseph headed on, and David Knight finished off.

Purcell again fired over, and a May free kick was deflected for a corner, and a Purcell volley was also deflected for a corner.

The fourth goal also came from a long throw, this time from Jed Chouman, and it was David Knight who finished off.

Phoenix briefly rallied, and an Adem Ramaden shot was cleared off the line, and Phoenix then scored when Sam Mott put a clearance back to Ricky Freeman who hit it back firmly into the net.

A Joey May free kick led to the fifth goal, when Leon Smith headed home, and a minute later Phoenix were awarded a penalty, which was converted by Ricky Freeman.

Calvin Poku came on for Joey May and twice went close, when he moved onto a Knight cross, only for Phillips to make an excellent save, and then Poku was again thwarted by Phillips, who turned his shot around the post.

Phillips saved again, this time from Purcell, as Hornchurch pressed strongly in the final few minutes.
