duncs Posted September 29, 2015 Share Posted September 29, 2015 Hartley 2 Ashford 0 very entertaining game with Hartley taking 3 well deserved points,Ashford were resorted to playing on the break as Hartley bossed the game from start to finish, 0 0 at half time could so easily have been 2 or 3 nil to the home team,second half was again controlled by the home team and Cook and Duff rattled in the goals to give them the 3 points,lots of huffing and puffing from the away bench was the best they could offer,officials were ok but again let themselves down a couple of times with some strange decisions,Hartley are looking very good and it will take a good team to stop them from winning the league IMHO. Westfield were the victims of their own undoing tonight. Westfield had much of the play in the first half but so many times gave away posession far too cheaply. The Hayes goal was never under threat as time after time the ball was lost in midfield or given away with sloppy passing. It was frustrating to watch as Westfield were putting plenty of effort into the game only to see each passage of play break down. Half time it was 0-0 and the hope was Westfield would come out of the blocks and start to play like the team they can be. It was so frustrating to see they had learnt nothing from their first half mistakes and continued to give the ball away too cheaply allowing Hayes to break and a slick pass through the middle left a one on one situation that the forward was never going to miss. With a goal to the good, Hayes came alive and had Westfield on the back foot on several occasions and continued to snuff out any chance of a Westfield attack. The Hayes back four kept their shape and discipline and I cannot recall a single shot on target towards the Hayes goal from Westfield throughout the entire game. The performance was typified in the dying minutes of the game when Westfield were awarded a free kick some 25 yards out. It was in a great position and the banter in the crowd was it was going in the top corner, unbelievably instead of shooting, the ball was squared with a terrible touch that Hayes then closed down well before a shot could be taken. I cannot imagine what they were thinking but it just summed up the night really. Hayes could have had several more goals to their tally but for another sterling performance from the Westfield keeper who once again was in top form. He did appear to have injured himself in a late one on one clash with a Hayes forward so here's hoping he is ok. When we won at Hayes, we rode our luck and I knew they would pick up sooner rather than later. That is the good thing about the league this season. Anyone can beat anyone on the day! aupostie Posted September 30, 2015 Share Posted September 30, 2015 Ash utd 2 Chessington & hook 3 Another defeat but a much better performance by ash. The first 15 minutes ash rode thier luck but held out. Slowly got into the game & took the lead with a good move down the left. Had chances to increase the lead but didn't & after a mazy run by the Chessington forward they drew level to go in at ht 1all. 2nd was reasonably equal for the opening incounters but it was an own goal that saw ash regain the lead. Chessington upped thier game & pressed ash further back into thier own half & with about 15mins to go won a penalty which was converted. The game was looking like extra time but in overtime which was a surprisingly how much thier was on the break Chessington broke away to scored with the final touches of the game & progress into the next round. Good luck to them in the next round & for the remainder of the season. How anyone can say that Ash played well is beyond me!? Well, if that's them playing well then I dread to think how bad they've actually been. They set out to defend from the first kick and tried to play on the break, which probably only happened a handful of times in the game. It reminded me of Barcelona v Chelsea in the champions league a few years ago. Chessington dominated possession for the full 90 minutes and if opts stats were there it probably would of been 80% to the away side. I was disappointed that Ash had set their stall out to defend all game, especially as Chessington had rested lots of their normal starting eleven. To be fair to Ash they kept working hard all game and did look dangerous on the few set pieces they did have. But Chessington always looked like they were in control on the game and deserved the win. It's the first time I've seen both sides this season, I think Ash will be ok moving forward as there are worse sides in division one. Chessington will struggle to keep up their good start with the side that I saw last night, but like I said they had rested quite a few so I expect them to finish in the top half of the prem. Bugly i was comparing the games ive seen through the season & last night was one of our better performances, but its still along way away from being right, but it was a step forward instead of a backward one. Im guessing for the defensive set up due to Chessington putting 18 past us in two games last season & didnt want to be embarrassed again...well thats my theory anayway Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
