HORNCHURCH  0  WEST HAM UTD  1

In a match played at a leisurely pace West Ham came closest to opening the score with a hard shot from Martin Samuelson, which just cleared the bar.

Charlie Dove, making his first appearance in the first team squad, also fired over when he got onto the end of a long throw from Jed Chouman, and Tobi Joseph headed wide from a Dave Collis cross.

Tim Brown in the visiting goal, touched an Elliot Styles header around the post for a corner, following a Collis free kick, and Nathan Cooper went close with a header from the corner.

A Dove free kick came back off the defensive wall, but it was Callum Chafer who made the best save in the first half, with an excellent save from Elliot Lee.

There were many changes in the second half, but Josh Cullen went close to opening the score with a good run which culminated with the ball going invitingly across the goalmouth.

Harry Baker picked out Joseph, and his shot was deflected away for a corner, before West Ham took the lead through Alex Pike who finished off a good move in fine fashion with a well-placed shot past Chafer.

Collis set up Styles with a free kick, but Brown saved. Whilst Baker linked up with Joseph, whose shot hit the side netting.

David Knight went close with a lobbed shot over Brown, only for the ball to drop over the bar instead of under it, and Knight again went close when he ran on to a Joey May through ball.

The final chance came when Hornchurch were awarded a free kick about thirty yards out, and keeper Brown held George Purcell’s hard shot at the second attempt.
