West into the record books after big Vase win

West Didsbury & Chorlton are in the League history books after their record breaking 15-1 win over Dinnington Town in the FA Vase Second Qualifying Round.

Their win beats the previous record win by any NWCFL team which had stood since May 1997, when Tetley Walker beat Nelson 15-2 in a Division Two game.

After establishing an 8-1 half time lead over their opponents, a record breaking score always looked on the cards, and in the end nine different West players got on the scoresheet.

Nic Evangelinos grabbed a hat trick and two own goals were contributed by the visitors to round off a memorable afternoon for West, and a miserable one for the Yorkshire side.

Not surprisngly, the result reverberated around the non-league world, with West manager Steve Settle, scorer of one of the goals himself, immediately being invited to appear on the weekend's BBC 5 Live Non-League Show.

Reflecting on the game, Steve said: "I'm delighted with the professionalism of the players.  To maintain their level of performance for the full 90 minutes was the most pleasng aspect.

"Nic Evangelinos scored a hat trick on his return, and had a hand in several others".

West now have to follow up that performance when they return to league action on Tuesday evening against Alsager Town.
