HORNCHURCH 4  HARINGEY BOROUGH 1

Hornchurch almost took the lead in the first minute, when Tobi Joseph hit the post from a Joey May corner, and George Purcell’s follow up shot went narrowly wide.

A good run by Nathan Cooper ended with another corner, and it was no surprise when the visitors went a goal behind. Another corner, and this time May played it short to George Purcell on the edge of the area, and Purcell promptly volleyed home.

Haringey were then allowed back into the game and Sam Mott made a good save from an Anthony McDonald free kick, tipping the ball around the post.

After Cooper had done well to tackle McDonald who had run on to a pass from Dean Fenton, Hornchurch went further ahead when George Purcell was tripped as he ran through, and Purcell made it two nil from the resultant penalty.

McDonald was causing a few problems with his runs along the left, from one of which he put in a shot which cleared the bar but which was also too close for comfort, whilst the same player linked up with Fenton, whose shot was saved by a diving Sam Mott, who turned the ball around the post for a corner. Hornchurch conceded another free kick, and Dan Aristidou struck his shot over the defensive wall but also over the bar, and shortly afterwards Ashley Fashanu headed wide when well placed.

Play swung back to the other end, where Ashley Harris made an excellent save to keep out a Purcell free kick. But close to half time Mott made a good save when Ishmael Kamara almost found a way through.

Hornchurch started strongly in the second half, and Harris made another excellent save from a Purcell free kick, but on 54 minutes Abs Thompson finished off a lengthy run along the wing with a shot from a narrow angle which went in via the post.

Jerome Martelli came on as substitute for Haringey in the 60th minute, and he set up what might well be a record when he was booked just ten seconds later for diving. In the strongly gusting wind Haringey pulled a goal back when Rakim Richards headed a free kick home at the near post.

Thompson went close with another good run, when his shot was deflected for a corner, and May sent the ball over to Tobi Joseph, who headed over. Jed Chouman came on for Junior Luke, and he sent a good pass along the wing to Joseph, who ran on, but his cross into the middle was intercepted before the ball could reach the waiting George Purcell.

George Purcell made it four one when he ran past keeper Harris and screwed the ball into the net from a narrow angle. Hornchurch had opportunities to go further ahead, with both Tobi Joseph and David Knight going close, whilst Mott made another good save at the other end as the match went into stoppage time.

Back up to 2nd  :)

IF Tuesday happens, this now becomes a massive game. Cray (for a change) aren't playing and we can put some distance between us and Thurrock if we win and also close to within two points of Cray.
