At Hertford.

That was a good game. Pity about the pathetic antics of the Hertford management. One banished to the stand at half time who then proceeded to rush down and attempt to attack the WGC bench after a goal later followed by the the assistent manager rushed the WGC bench after they scored their second goal and stupidly our bench reacted and got one of our key players red carded (5-1 up he had been wisely subbed).

All a bit sad from a well beaten team.

Hopefully the return will not be as tasty.

Hertford and Welwyn are the two teams I follow closest. So naturally I was there last night, with what I'd like to think was an unbiased view.

Firstly, footballing wise, WGC dominated the first 70 minutes until they took their foot off at 5-0. Looked dangerous every time they went forward and could have scored more. Though Hertford had no shortage of chances on the counter, as well as skying a penalty whilst still only 1-0.

On the pitch, but less footballing, HTFC players were very well behaved, whereas WGC seemed far more hyped up for it. Picking up 6(?) yellows in the end I think.

Felt like HTFC had lost the fighting spirit that gets them through a lot of games.

On the side of the pitch, Mr Fisher was constantly being warned of his "last chance" by the lino for being on the pitch anytime the ball went dead.

Whereas Mr Halsey and his team were very aggrieved by an early decision that didn't go their way. Namely the WGC keeper only being booked for apparently swinging a couple of punches. The ref seemed to lose control and never fully regain it from there.

And going in at half time, Mr Halsey was sent the full 3 feet to the stand behind the dugout for airing his grievances in what can only be assumed to have been a gentlemanly manner.

Then after HTFC's late 2nd, there was a bit of a melee in front of the WGC bench. I can't claim to have seen the what or the why, but rumours abounded of a headbutt being aimed. So another HTFC coach was sent to join Mr Halsey. And a WGC player already off the pitch was sent further off.

In the stands. With the 4th goal just after half time, the younger/rowdier group of Hertford's fans seemed to lose interest in the game and came to sit in the stand, seemingly to try and goad some of the WGC fans. They were generally well behaved, allbeit noisy. But with kids of that age, they seemed to be in competition with each other for who could push the boundaries the furthest.

I won't elaborate on the anti-Semitism. Suffice to say it was a song you hear most away fans singing at White Hart Lane. I'm not sure these kids really understand what they were singing. They just seem to have come across an Arsenal hymn book.

I have some sympathy with Hertford in regards to dealing with it. They're a well run club, have built a decent side and the rest of their fans noisily support their club the right way. But these kids are going to get them in trouble sooner or later I fear. It only takes one to try and out stupid another by running onto the pitch or throwing something a bit harder than a jelly sweet. And unfortunately, no number of babysitters/stewards will be able to prevent it (look at the Stevenage/Luton game the other day).

Let's hope Hertford do the right thing and ban those responsible for life.

Hertford should be rightly proud of the excellent support they have had in recent times but it seems they need to act fast to ensure their reputation is not further tarnished by a few idiots who have nothing better to do on a Tuesday night. People like Loucas and Col have worked hard to bring Hertford FC to the forefront of the town and I am sure they will nip this in the bud.

That unbiased view Catdog Seemed alittle biased to me ? ... We all know WGC are no saints with the lights of Arnott and co. Along with Hertford both should take responsibility.

The Herford Young lads remind me of The Royston Kids Club Crew from a few years back. They were a light hearted bunch of school leavers with the drum. All tongue and cheek , and as you say all wanting to out do each other with each chant.

Which part seemed biased? Just tried to say it as I saw it. Result aside, neither club can take any glory out of last night.

Would like to hear opinions of anyone else present.

And I'm all for getting kids involved with their local clubs. So I'd rather see them taught the right way than banned outright. But they certainly can't continue as they have been. There's a difference between light-hearted banter and calling someone a c**t. And the rumours of spitting and vandalism will stick, whether true or not.

As Jonno mentioned, a lot of people have worked hard to get Hertford to where they are. They don't deserve to have their reputation ruined by a small minority.

We all know what happened with the Royston Massive. They grew up and stopped coming to the games, I imagine these Hertford gangsters will fizzle out in the same way. Until then, some of the senior players in the squad need to use their position (as idolised Hertford star players) to calm these kids down, who are slowly becoming a bit of turd stain on what is a wonderful club IMO.

Believe you me, WGC are no angels in all this. Players and staff there are what I would call, the classic wind up merchants. Bet they were all straight on tweeter 'telling on' Hertford.
