Ash Trees 1 Woods 1

It was never going to be easy against a Woods side with a fine away record, and so it proved.

A point was the most we deserved. Colliers Wood were very fast and dangerous going forward and had enough speed to get nearly everyone back behind the ball when we attacked.

We never really got going in the first half and, had they taken their chances, Woods could have been three up by half time. All they had to show for their efforts was a controversial penalty (apparently, even one of the Woods players said it wasn't a spot kick) coolly slotted home by Dan Harding in the 14th minute.

We had much more purpose in the second half and a fine team move saw emergency centre forward Perry thump it low and home from six yards out in the 50th minute. For the next quarter of an hour we bossed the game, but Woods got back in the swing and the rest of the match was nip and tuck.

Difficult to choose a man of the match. Will had another fine game and Perry did well before being subbed but, for sheer oomph, Weighty gets the nod from me.

Wood were a very good outfit more than deserved their point. Very fast skillful team. Ashford were not at their best today but a point will suffice..

Congratulations to Camberley in their Vase victory.

What a good side Colliers Wood are, quick in attack and quick to get players behind the ball and defend.Ashford struggled in the 1st half to come to terms with them and looked relieved at half time to be only one goal down(Swifty it was a nailed on penalty,if Sammad's tackle had been outside the penalty area it would have been a free kick,so why not inside?).Much more go about Ashford in the 2nd half and Perry got the goal that made it 1-1,and so it remained for the rest of the game, both sides tried to get the winning goal but they just cancelled each other out.My man of the match must go to Scot Weight,I could hear him throughout the match telling the players what to do and driving the team forward (making light of his more mature years) a excellent game by him.

From where I stood I thought it was a penalty, but some on the side nearest the incident said there wasn't as much contact as first looked and the player's fall to the ground helped make the ref's mind up.

I was disappointed with our lack of positivity, we seemed to be so worried about Wood's fast forwards that we weren't very attacked minded.. We didn't see Josh or Alex getting forward to join attacks as normal. We took too many touches and didn't get the ball forward quickly enough. Yes, Wood are a decent team, we knew that after the close match at their place, but our boys have the ability to beat any team in this league when at our best.

I agree that Weighty deserved his MOM award.
