Tranmere Rovers manager Gary Brabin was pleased after his side's 1-0 home win over Southport.

Despite the narrow margin of the victory, the manager felt it was more comfortable than the scoreline suggests and he was happy with the performance from his players.

He told Tranmere Player: "We deserved to win. We looked solid out of possession. We've had enough good chances but it wasn't to be.

"It's another clean sheet, another home win and another three points to our tally."

The only goal of the game came from the penalty spot with James Norwood dispatching the ball home from 12 yards in the 63rd minute.

The manager believed there could easily have been another spot kick awarded earlier in the game but said it was a good finish by Norwood to give his team the win.

He added: "The first penalty shout looked a penalty from where we were but we worked hard and thankfully he gave the next one. There was a definite push on Gary Taylor-Fletcher and Nors (James Norwood) has scored.

"The keeper has tried to put Nors off but he kept his head and it was a good penalty."

The results lifts Rovers into 4th position in the National League standings, although other teams do have games in hand.

Brabin is just focusing on his own team and picking up as many points as possible in the final 14 matches of the campaign.

He said: "We're not focusing too much on other teams and what they might do, we're concentrating on ourselves.

"We realise we have a lot of work to do and there's going to be ups and downs between now and the end of the season."
