Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Ashton United are looking forward to spending a four figure grant from football's top flight on engaging with their fans.

Only weeks after celebrating a three year extension of their kit and equipment partnership with GR8 Sports of Rochdale, Ashton United in the Community (AUITC) has been handed a £6,120 to improve fan and community engagement from the Premier League Fans Fund.

Administered by the Football Stadia Improvement Fund (FSIF), the new initiative represents a three-year commitment from the Premier League to fund projects and organisations which improve the experiences of fans in the National League System.

AUITC officials say the major cash injection will enable their newly established group to grow as a charity and engage with supporters and the wider community by recruiting and training more volunteers to improve the matchday experience at Hurst Cross.

AUITC chairman Alan Sneddon said: “We are absolutely thrilled with the grant from the Premier League Fans Fund. Ashton United is constantly looking at improving the offer from the ‘Ashton family’ and the launch of Ashton United in the Community, utilising this grant, will undoubtedly increase the local profile of the club and charity.”

“AUITC is run independently of the football club by volunteers and will provide that little bit extra both on match days and in between. We hope to hear from local people what we can do to improve relationships between the fans, their club, and the wider community.”

Funded by the Premier League with an annual budget of £6m, the FSIF awards capital grants to clubs to improve safety at their stadia and to enable them to satisfy The FA’s ground grading requirements.

In a statement hailing the Premier Division club's earlier January deal with GR8 Sports, Ashton United's vice chairman Steve Hobson said: "We have partnered with GR8 Sports for the past three years and the level of service has been exemplary.

"Nothing has been too much trouble for the team at GR8 and we are entirely satisfied with the relationship. Ashton United is pleased to announce a new three year partnership.

GR8 Sports managing director Paul Marr said: "We are delighted that Ashton United has extended our link for another three year period. We have been able to support their ambition with high quality kit and equipment and they in turn have helped us generate new custom and build up our brand awareness. The partnership has proven to be a great success for both parties."
