I know we have to take the rough with the smooth and, sadly, it wasn't smooth today.

Westfield were well organised and functional. They weren't brilliant but didn't need to be, as we gave a really flat display.

I felt sorry for Tyler, who made a wonderful diving save to his right to stop a low shot following our giving away the ball in midfield, but we never switched on for the resulting corner and Matt Jackson's deft flick (was it a backheel?) at the near post gave Westfield a 60th minute winning lead.

We couldn't break down Westfield's blanket defence after that and, apart from a Josh effort from 20 yards out which thundered against the top of the bar, the efforts we managed were either too close to the keeper or wide or high. Westfield didn't manage much on target but still threatened.

All I can say is, I hope we get a goal fest next Saturday and a performance fit to win the semi-final at Enfield Town.

Oh dear what has happened to Ashford, where was the care free play, banging goals in for fun and sweeping all before them?I take nothing away from Westfield, they can only play what is put in front of them and they took full advantage of a truly awful display by Ashford and deservedly went home with the points.

Just like the nursery rhyme Ashford huffed and puffed but could not blow Westfield away,we were poor all round, just a couple of bright spots in a dull and dismall display were the return of Russ Canderton in defence (my man of the match) who put in a good display and put some of the younger players to shame and Ben Murray finally woke up and put Scott Weight on(who should have started the match in the first place)and playing along side Max helped beefed up the midfield.

H W and Camberly must be laughing, the last two games Ashford had the chance to put the screws on,but have blown it.

Come on Ashford get on to the training pitch put in the hard work and get the rewards I know you are capable of.

Even though we played poorly, Ashford could have won the match in the last 5 minutes when Westfield started to panic as we finally put their defence under pressure. Josh hit the bar and Mark missed the sort of chance that he normally puts away. When you play badly, you need a bit of luck to eke out a result and we didn't get it when the ref waved away appeals for a blatant push on Bailey on the hour mark. Having said that the ref generally had a very good game.

Also with our creative players not performing, the last thing we needed was the defence to fall asleep when defending a corner. Their goal was very poor from our point of view and a shame as we generally defended very well.

The consensus amongst Tangerine supporters is that the league title will now go to Hartley Wintney, this week's results have left us too much to do.

Well, I hadn't mentioned the title, though I did say on the terraces before yesterday's game that we could probably only afford two or three 'non-wins' between now and the end of the season to stand a decent chance.

All the more reason to focus on a win at Enfield Town and win the one major county cup yet to grace our cabinet.   ;)
