Vs Hanworth Villa

A strange game on what was quite a hard pitch compared to some of the swamps we have played on recently.

We had most of the possession and looked like the team most likely to score but our final ball was letting us down. The blustery wind and bumpy pitch not helping and it turned into a bit of a scrappy affair. No goals at half time with Villa having just a couple of long range efforts sail high and wide. Whilst we kept the impressive Terry Buss busy but not overworked.

Second half was much the same but slowly we were attacking with more purpose and vigour.

With 15 minutes to go we were thinking in the crowd that it might be one of those days when Bitz burst through on the keeper. Buss made the block but a bit of pinball in the box until the ball fell to skipper Jack Beadle and he slotted the ball home. Then Max broke the offside trap to make it 2-0 and Beadle hit his second which dipped over Buss leaving him flat footed to finish the game 3-0. Slightly flattering but no doubt who deserved the 3points.

On we march.

With Hartley Wintney losing for once, our season is back on!

It was not the most entertaining of games but we defended well and played the better football and so deserved the win. I gave MOM to Will, who was immense in defence as we were under an aerial bombardment for much of the match. It was our best defensive performance for sometime, the only occasion taht our goal was under threat was when Samad seemed to handle in the box but the ref waved play on. There were local bragging rights involved and so the Villa were never going to make it easy for us and they  defended resolutely themselves until they seemed to run out of energy. They were time-wasting, arguing with the ref, a sure sign that were looking for the final whistle. Gaps started to appear and we took full advantage of them in the last 15 mins to wrap up the 3 polnts.
