Change to 1st Team Management at Dorking F.C.

Recommended Posts

So let me get this right.

One minute Dorking want to be a community based club.

Then suddenly they are looking for an ambitious Manager who will achieve more success than Glynn did, even though they had incremental improvements in a constantly improving standard of football.

From the outside looking in, it looks as if they have crapped on the Manager who had to work in very difficult circumstances. Just when he would have had a chance to properly show what he can do at Westhumble next year, they get rid of him.

I would be either very careful or very desperate to apply for the next Manager's position as the club clearly thinks it is bigger than actually is the case, and who knows how many more unrealistic demands / expectations they will have once they get to Meadowbank.

Our club has had nine Managers in 43 years. Stability works. Glynn may well have had four years at Dorking but never appeared to be given a fair crack, and it sounds as though DFC aren't learning yet.

btw I've never even met Glynn, so there is no agenda on my part before the conspiracy theorists get started.

Firstly I have used this forum to moan groan criticise and worse Dorkings previous board. Luckily I was able to make my peace with them and credit to them for letting me

So it would be hypocritical of me not to answer criticism on here now

I'll publicly thank Glynn and Steve on here for keeping the club going but more for being good honest football people who have led the club to a top half finish and at least a semi final and are good friends

Now to respond to rich.

has the club suggested it wants more success under new manager? Don't think so.

The club thinks it's bigger than it is?

How so? We are no longer the biggest club in Dorking and arguably no bigger than Dorkinuans.

It wants to be a community club one minute you say. Well we are. We are a CIC. We couldn't demonstrate being a community club in Horley. We will in Dorking and especially meadowbank

That's not unique in football of course. But it will be demonstrably true

If the club have got its ethos and DNA wrong then we won't get many applicants Let's look at that again in Augusr

Rich success like beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Applicants will know what success looks like for Dorking FC short mid and long term.

For now, it's not simply about 3 points on a Saturday

If you can understand that you will understand Dorking FC better and hopefully see we aren't arrogant, we're trying a different way

I see Dorking rugby club have replaced there director of rugby.

I'm sure Richie Andrews will be a success at another club.

There is no reason at all why our guys can't be a success at another club either.

I wish them well and and every success and they will be an asset to the right club

No smoking gun here.

I assumed Dorking at first team level at least were folding given their imminent merger with Dorking Wanderers.

Have I misunderstood the press releases. Dorking Wanderers have no reserves under 18s or youth football and Dorking do . Dorking now sack the manager.

That's a merger isn't it ? If not immediate certainly sometime in the near future.

What do I know though .

Are being a community club and being successful/ambitious mutually exclusive then?

Crikey, the sangria must have kicked in mr giggle or the bitter if you are still in UK!

What a load of twaddle.

Suggest you trot down to Tuesday's cup game at Westhumble.

Seriously, I'm delighted you have an interest in Dorking football and I'd be pleased to meet you and introduce you to people who could better explain how the Dorking Football Alliance will work.

Would you like to take up my offer?

Next Tuesday

Westhumble 19.45

Dorking v Chessy cup semi.

Our current first team management will be doing their best to reach the final, with the club's full support.

Come down, make yourself known, ask away.

No problem at all.

Fair play to them but I'd have told you to get fkd.

It's clear you're as evasive as the press release so what's the point asking you anything?

In the UK at present Mr Jeff.

I'm a spirit man personally , the favourite tipple being a decent Bombay Gin with Indian Tonic Water Ice and 2 slices of lemon , unfortunately none consumed today.

Twaddle ? I don't take that personally but what is twaddle about my comment.

Outside looking in suggests one club emerging from this alliance. I will of course bow to your knowledge and refrain from further comment given you're apparent disapproval. Perhaps I've touched a raw nerve !

I'm unclear as to my schedule this Tuesday but May take you up on your offer of a polite discussion, I assume I look for the spaghetti Western Actor as my initial point of contact.

Who is at the helm out of interest in the interim.

When Glynn was the Reserve Team Manager at Ashford Town (Middlesex), I joined the club as his Team Secretary.

A more dedicated football man - or nicer bloke - you couldn't wish to meet and we became friends as well as colleagues. The brief wasn't to win trophies (although we did win a couple of cups and reach some other Finals), it was to bring players through for the First Team and Glynn did that time and again.

What I remember most about the seasons we spent working together was how much fun we had. Yes, we wanted to win every game but there was plenty of laughter and practical jokes along the way. We had a young side with a great spirit. Even in defeat, there were positives that were taken out of every match and there were no flying teacups - even when a player had a nightmare, Glynn would talk to them afterwards, sometimes over a beer, and help that individual to work out what had happened and how to use it to get better.

As someone who knows Glynn's work, I'm a bit surprised that Dorking have decided to change direction, but not that the change is happening after the club's fixtures have finished. That's typical of Glynn - he would want to finish the campaign - and does represent a degree of respect being shown to him by the club in giving him the chance to go out by winning a pot. I hope he manages it!

Far too many division 1 clubs spouting football propaganda currently about "golden futures".

No problem with that personally but ambitious Div 1 clubs may cause a bottleneck re future promotions?

Fundamentally wrong IMHO!

WOW  -  Looks like I've started some interesting comment on here.

Like Jeff, I have absolutely no axe to grind.  I have known Glynn AND father and late Mother since he started as Manager at Dorking years ago.  A really friendly family and a pleasure to be in their company.

As someone who has absolutely no official connection with the Club these days, I was stunned on hearing the news that the management team had been released after all they had done in times of the Clubs trouble.

It will be interesting to see who applies and who is appointed.  Believe you me, there is one person that many of us hope applies and is accepted.  Only time will tell.

I'm off down to Gander Green Lane now and I expect one or two people will be discussing this. I've had a few calls from persons in Div One giving their thoughts. Unlike TSF, I'll be happy to share what I perceive to be the common view later on. Some of what I've heard so far is mind blowing.

Nosher I think you are on Glynn and Steves side which I have no problem with.

So please be careful with your posts. You are hinting there is some big secret reason behind their departure. Something mind blowing

Some readers may think your posts are hinting at something Glynn and Steve may have done

That's definitely not the case as I've said.

I still think you'll get a more balanced view by coming Tuesday than gossip at Gander Green

Giggle. I'm sure you know someone who would introduce us but I'll be the fat bald bloke with a club tie. Actually make that the fattest bald bloke one or two are catching me up !.
