Dorking management duo to depart

Following a meeting of the Board of Dorking Football Club, it has been decided that first team manager Glynn Stephens and assistant Steve Hurd will leave their roles at the end of this current season.

The Board would like to place on record the great debt of gratitude everyone at the club owes to Glynn and Steve for the work they have carried out running the first team over the past four years, often under difficult circumstances.

Chief Executive Jason Rabbetts says, "Back in 2013, when the home ground at Meadowbank was closed for health and safety reasons under the previous owners of the club, it is no exaggeration to say that Glynn and Steve's tireless work kept Dorking FC alive at a time when extinction seemed inevitable. From week to week, they found DORKING FCgrounds to host games, recruited players, managed the team and carried out the behind-the-scenes work and administration that is required to stage non-league football.

"When our new Board took over the following year, we were able to focus on securing the long term future of Dorking FC and a return to a new Meadowbank stadium, while Glynn and Steve got on with the job of managing the team, totally dependably, achieving incremental improvements in league position for each of the past two seasons."

They will remain in charge for the forthcoming Southern Combination Cup Semi-Final, to be staged at Dorking Wanderers' Westhumble ground on Tuesday, and hopefully on to a Final, which would be a fitting climax to their time managing the team.

The Board will begin the process for recruiting a new first team manager immediately.

After 136 years of history, the next two seasons will be a particularly exciting time for Dorking FC.

The club will return to playing home matches in the town for the first time since 2013, initially ground sharing with Dorking Wanderers, before moving back home to the new stadium at Meadowbank, complete with a two-storey clubhouse, 3G artificial pitch and offices for Surrey FA, which will become a focal point for grassroots football in the area.

In addition, the creation of a new development alliance with Dorking Wanderers will see a new integrated coaching structure throughout the club, with the new first team manager working closely with an expanded Under 18 set up, as well as liaising with coaching staff at Wanderers, to identify and develop local talent who can progress through the town's two senior clubs, playing exciting and attractive football.

Jason Rabbetts says, “To take Dorking FC forward on the next stage of its long-term plan, the Board will be looking to appoint an ambitious manager who shares the vision of a locally-based team in a sustainable club with amateur values at its heart, but run to the highest professional standards.”
