FF News
On Saturday, as we approach the centenary of the Battle of the Somme, Woking FC are proud to be unveiling a plaque commemorating Evelyn Lintott, one of its most distinguished players who perished in France on July 1st 1916. Lintott is Woking’s only full England international and was both a chairman of the PFA and the first professional footballer to be commissioned in the British Army. The plaque, which has been kindly donated by Councillor Ian Johnson, will be unveiled under the Leslie Gosden Stand at 3.40 pm as a memorial to all those associated with the club who gave their lives in the World Wars and other conflicts. The short, 15-minute ceremony will highlight aspects of Lintott’s life and the first-team squad will attend. Special guests will include the mayor, members of the military, local councillors, representatives of the Royal Grammar School and members of the Lintott family.
