Wibbandune Awards 2015/16

Recommended Posts

Player Of The Year – There were three candidates. With 29 and 27 goals each, Mario Embalo and Dan Harding had strong claims of course, especially Harding who had a superb first half to the season. However, the award goes to midfielder,Adam Snook, in his first season at Wibbandune, for consistency, tenacity and general all round solid performances.

Honourable mention to Dale Marvell who fitted in well in defence, Not bad for a striker.

Young Player Of The Year – Again, there were three candidates. The raw, but exciting Anis Nuur is a work in progress and the powerful Tyrone Magala-Bryan looks to have a sound future in football. The award goes to Alan Stevenson, in his second Wibbandune season, for superb performances in defence and midfield when required.

Honourable mention to left back, Matthew Kitandwe, promoted late in the season from the reserves, a step up of three levels

Best Home Game – The 2-0 win over Loxwood in the FA Cup springs immediately to mind as does the 2-0 home league win against Horley Town. However, the 5-2 demolition of Knaphill (which should have been more) takes the award. Nobody would have beaten us on this day.

Best Away Game – On a warm August Friday evening, we played some scintillating stuff to win at Sutton Common Rovers and we were equally lively in winning 4-0 at Guildford City. However, for pure drama and excitement, it has to be the 5-4 league cup win at Windsor that wins this award.

Best Match Programme – Epsom & Ewell always takes some beating in this category but there was a noticeable improvement from many clubs in their issues this season. Taking all the usual criteria into place, Guildford City and Chertsey Town were good reads but this award goes to Knaphill.

Worst Home Game – We were competitive in most games and unlucky in some of those. However, the lacklustre 0-3 defeat to Epsom & Ewell has to win this award.

Worst Away Game – Though not our heaviest defeat, the 0-5 loss at Bedfont Sports is a shoe-in for this award closely followed by the 0-3 defeat at Redhill. Hartley (0-6) wasn't too clever either!

Best Opposition Goalkeeper – There have been some fine goalkeeping efforts this season but the stand out one must be Luca Bertalone for Knaphill at Redding Way who single handedly won the game for the hosts.

Best Opposition Defender – Quite a few defenders caught the eye but none more than Shane Hollamby of Hartley Wintney, who played against The Wood three times; all solid performances.

Best Opposition Midfielder – Again, this is based on performances against The Wood and Paul Johnson of Bedfont Sports just takes the award for two fine and dominant games against us.

Best Opposition Forward – Tough one this as there are many very talented strikers in the CCL. Glass of Farnham Town, Bitmead and Fleming at Ashford Town (Mx) as well as Bunyan at Camberley Town were all thorns in our side but it has to be Sam Argent of Hartley Wintney.

Friendliest Visitors To Wibbandune – We don't have too many issues with visiting teams although one or two clubs appear rather aloof on their visits. Shame on them! Our award goes to Farnham Town.

Friendliest Club Visited – Farnham Town almost got the nod here as well but Westfield win this category.

Best Opposition Pitch – Ashford Town and Windsor are the best we feel and Bedfont Sports is decent. However, the improvement and general surface and appearance at Horley Town gets our nod this season.

The Wood Goal Of The Season – So many to choose from.

But the one that got us all “hot” was Dan Harding at Sutton Common Rovers on opening day, following Dan Hughes spin in front of the grandstand. His top corner drive certainly excited the visiting “Wood Ultras”!

Thank you to all CCL clubs for another fun season and we are looking forward to next season already. See you in August.
