Le Tissier named as Guernsey chairman

Ryman South Guernsey have named Mark Le Tissier as their new chairman and successor to Steve Dewsnip.

One of the club’s co-founders will also continue in his role as general manager at Footes Lane.

Dewsnip, pictured addressing fans, stood down as chairman at the end of August, citing family and work reasons, and the Green Lions say they are delighted to unveil Le Tissier as his successor.

In a statement on Friday, officials also announced the appointment of two more directors as a reward for their work and a review of the roles and responsibilities of their directors and loyal volunteers to strengthen operations on and off the field.

FC director and company secretary John Loveless said: “Mark was the natural choice - no one understands the club better than him. The board are delighted that Mark has agreed to step up and we are confident that it will be a popular appointment.”

Incoming chairman Le Tissier welcomed communications manager Nic Legg and chief steward Chris Corbin on board as directors ahead of their approval by the Football Association and home game against Herne Bay on Saturday.

Le Tissier said: “The club is very pleased and proud to announce that Nic Legg and Chris Corbin have accepted our invitation to join the board as directors. They have been an invaluable and enthusiastic part of the club's success in its formative years and they understand and support the ethos of the club and the role it plays in the community, particularly in inspiring the next generation of young footballers in Guernsey."

Legg told the club's fans he had no hesitation in accepting the offer to join the board. “It’s an honour to be invited on to the board and I was only too happy to join," he said. "I look forward to continuing to play my part in this wonderful club."

The approach came as a surprise to Corbin who said: "I was surprised, yet delighted to be approached to join the GFC board and look forward to supporting the incumbent chairman in his new role, and to our challenges and successes ahead."

Both Legg and Corbin are previous winners of the Mark Le Tissier Trophy for Outstanding Contribution to the Club and a Green Lions spokesman added: "We are certain that these appointments will be popular within the community and we wish them every success with their respective responsibilities.

"The board will continue to review its strengths and weaknesses. If it is felt that further appointments are required, we will not hesitate to seek the right people with the necessary skills to ensure the club continues to build on the solid foundations laid in the first five years of our existence."
