FF News
Steve Watson has warned that Saturday’s trip to Maidstone United will not be an easy game for Macclesfield Town, but is confident of a win at the Gallagher Stadium. Maidstone are without a win in the National League since September, and have only won once on their own turf so far this season. Speaking after Tuesday’s 0-0 draw at Chester, Watson said: “With an away game you never assume that you’re going to go there and for it to be easy to get three points, but the lads have worked their socks off in the last two games. “We’ve just got to prepare now for what will be another tough game, and have a look at who’s going to be fit at the back, but we’ll be going down there in a pretty decent run of confidence and off the back of a couple of decent performances as well”. It will be the second time during the 2016/17 season that the Silkmen will have to contend with a plastic pitch when they face Maidstone, with the first taste this season coming in the 2-0 defeat against Sutton. Watson though believes that the pitch will not have that much of an effect on the game itself, with the players’ experience during training on the astro-turf pitches. “The pitch didn’t help at Sutton, but it’s certainly not an excuse, we just didn’t perform at all. “We’ve trained hundreds of times during the winter on our astro-turf pitch so it shouldn’t be much of an issue. “I think it’s just a case of we’re in a different place now than we were against Sutton, we’ll go there with a lot more confidence and hopefully get back on the winning road”.
