A fine second half display today. I must admit that, for all our first half pressure, I didn't think we looked all that impressive. Duku was well beaten for pace for the opening goal and it was surprising to see Wilkerson beaten at his near post, and our equaliser certainly came as a surprise to me.

However, the second half was far better. Abbey and Haworth took their goals really well, and I thought Drury was particularly impressive again. I felt that McKimm made a meal of the red card incident, but we had already done the damage by then. Let's hope for more of the same on New Year's Day - both sides have stronger away records than home records this season, so we'll have to be wary. However, they do say that for derby matches the form book goes out of the window. grin.gif

P.S. Great to hear that Walshe's injury wasn't as serious as it appeared, and also, good news about Protheroe's loan extension - a fine display from him today.

Louie Evans played his part in the game very well, being played out of position and his first game in ages. Protheroe was very good, I believe we should sign him permanently. On the whole we played good passing and created a lot of chances, which not only made us the winning side but also made it a very exciting match, the likes of which we havent seen recently. We were always attacking ver well and making good chances.

I believe though that we need to start shooting more. A lot of times we either played about with it too much in front of goal or tried to pass it as close to the goal as possible before shooting. A man to hit them hard from the top of the box (if it is the best option) make the keeper have to work and get a quick man on the rebounds.

All in all a superb performance, more of these will seal the necessary victories (liegh, Farnboro....) and also would give us a very good chance against the "big boys" in the league. Well done the boys 3 points on Thursday please!!

Just one fault with Mr Protheroe - was it not him who placed that awful back header into the path of the Margate forward at 3-1?? (Apologies if it wasnt, but the lights are pretty poor at Dover) A goal then and Margate would have been back in with a chance - albeit undeservedly - but thankfully, Wilko redeemed himself for the gaff on the first goal, by making a good stop.

Listened to the match on RK. Apart from a great performance and much needed 3 points, nice to hear Mr Webster in tip top form. Thought his opposite number ( Jeremy ?) was going to top himself at one point !

..and what's that lady commentator all about ( Jodie ??)...kept referring to the defence as "the back row " !!!and moaning that her feet were cold !!

Well done to all....nice one Abbo !!

More of the same on Thursday hopefully.

Cheers,

Unfortunately CK is a twat when he speaks and it does make me wonder what he says to the players cos I can imagine they take it the wrong way. CK has to instill some confidence after saturdays mauling or at least give someone else that job of talking to the team. He really is awful when interviewed. You lot being a bigger side was a crazy remark. You thrashed us on saturday and I would have been really proud of your team if I were a fleet fan. But I'm not and was really embarrassed. We just CANNOT be as bad again. . CAN WE?

I think the Margate bloke was called Jim...I didn't catch his last name but I'm pretty sure his middle name was bad-loser. grin.gif

Good all round commentary from Radio Kent, especially the 2 rival fans who were commentators.

My ears may have deceived me but anyone listening to the the match preview at around 2'ish would have heard Jodie Foster imply that Andy Ford was unlikely to be at Stonebridge Road much longer! On what evidence was this statement based on? Charles Webster was quick to counter with the opinion that Andy had the support of the fans etc.

She's wonderful that woman !! She does seem to be improving a little, though - her interview with Andy after the game (and the interview with CK) was quite coherent and sensible.

Mind you she did manage her usual "its in the back of the net" for both the Margate goal and our first goal.

Her pre match comment was, as Jim says, soon countered by Chas Webster, and when he asked if she had heard something on her travels, she had no real answer, so I think it was more a case of "Fleet are struggling and if they continue to struggle, will Andy Ford be sacked?" as a question, rather than it being meant that she knew something the rest of us didnt.

I suspect that now Andy has woken up to the idea that actually PASSING the ball to each other, instead of humping it aimless downfield in the hope that players like Ben Abbey or Pinnock will soar above their huge defensive markers to lay on a telling pass, we can now start collecting a few more results.

Have to say that we ought to make Canvey an offer for Protheroe, especially as Canvey look certain to join us next year.

It will be interesting who starts on Thursday between Walshe and Evans.

A few margate comments on the game;

"I still can't help thinking that Gravesend were pretty awesome.

A very powerful display and to keep it at that level for 100 minutes was unique."

"the fleet were miles superior "

"Gravesend were simply so much better. "

"Brazil in disguise!

Just like to say well done to gravesend yesterday they were the best side i have seen at the hoverspeed this season!

what are they doing at the wrong end of the table?"

Lets hope we these compliments are repeated for us on Thursday! Also alot of talking about Margate being in liquidation for a few hours last Tuesday, and of them having to leave the league, bad times for them,I hope they stay solvent, but that they lose to us <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Brilliant performance second half, the only criticism is that we should have had at least two more goals boosting our goal diffrence and worsening the Gits, still can't complain. Wilko was at fault with their goal though to be fair it was a great strike and took him by suprise.

Lets have more of the same on NYD, they'll be out for revenge and they did win at Aldershot recently though I don't know how.

Good job I got there early bearing in mind the long walk to the away end!

Excellent performance, just what we all needed, apart from the first goal, which was an error, I thought everyone one of the lads played his heart out.

So what if Drury hogs the ball a bit, he loves to plays and obviously the ball on the floor suits him , thought Howarth was immense, Abbey has had so much bad press lately, the least we can do is say well done when he deserves it.

Chris Moore was his usual excellent self and Lee Protheroe, what an asset

Great team performance, more of the same on Thursday please.
