Shaymen striker Peniket disappointed as Eastleigh snatch replay

Despite FC Halifax Town’s name being placed in the FA Cup 3rd round draw, the first time ever in the clubs history, striker Richard Peniket came away from the Lakeside Stadium disappointed that ball number 60 isn’t solely occupied by the Shaymen.

“To go 3-1 up with 18 minutes and not hang on to reach the 3rd round is bitterly disappointing in my opinion,” said Peniket to Shaymen Player HD.

“Having said that we have to take a lot of positives from our performance in the second half which will give us great confidence for the replay back at the Shay. But of course I’m obviously delighted that the club is in the draw.”

With the replay scheduled for Tuesday 13th December, all eyes will be glued to the television screens tomorrow evening as Halifax Town will discover their potential opponents. With Premier League and Championship sides now entering the hat – the Shaymen can dare to dream big.

“Any of the big Premier League teams would obviously be an incredible day out for the club and supporters. On a personal note, I am a West Brom fan so that will be extra special to get” admitted Peniket.

The striker put the Shaymen in control of their own destiny on 72 minutes after a huge mix up between Connor Essam and the Eastleigh keeper- Peniket took full advantage and latched onto the poor back pass and his slotted strike was met with joyous scenes behind the goal with the travelling supporters.

“I’ve nipped in and managed to get the goal. It was a great feeling and if I’m honest I thought we’d done it at that point. Credit to Eastleigh, they threw everything at us and there a good side. If you look at the game as a whole, I believe a replay was fair given how even the sides were throughout” said Peniket.

Peniket was full of praise for his side in going toe-to-toe with the National League side and admits the camp is full of optimism looking ahead to the now mouth-watering 2nd Round Replay next Tuesday (which will of course intensify once the draw is confirmed tomorrow evening).

“I expect our home fans to be right behind us – it should be a terrific atmosphere,” said Peniket, “We also know the Shay is a big pitch and some teams turn up there and struggle but I’m sure it’s going to be another great cup tie.”
