Gingerbreads reward quartet after record-breaking run

Grantham Town have rewarded four of the players responsible for their record-breaking unbeaten run in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's top flight with new contracts.

The Gingerbeards - whose 17 game unbeaten run ended in a 2-1 defeat at Mickleover on Saturday 18 February - say the quartet of strikers Felipe Barcelos and Jeremiah Dasaolou, full-back Ellis Storey and keeper Kieran Preston, all put pen-to-paper ahead of the club's 2-2 draw with promotion rivals Workington at the Meres on Saturday.

Grantham Town chairman Roger Booth said: "At Grantham we now have a view that contracts are not “given” to players. They have to be earned and these lads have shown what they are capable of and have the potential to go on to better things.”

Gingerbreads manager Adam Stevens has also bumped the Integro League Challenge Cup up the club's list of priorities after being drawn at home to Nottinghamshire's EVO-STIK First Division South Basford United in a quarter-final clash at The Meres next Tuesday night (March 7).

Stevens said: "We have previously not seen this as a first priority but having got this far we now want to go on to get as far as we can. We lost badly at Basford in the FA trophy last season so a chance to play them again is welcome.”
