Also joining the club is John Durnin, who will take the role of First Team Coach. 61-year-old Lewer has previous experience at the helm of Weymouth, Histon and Forest Green Rovers as well as being part of the staff at Chester City and Bangor City. Alan joins Head of Development Mark Wright in overseeing the playing squad. Incoming First Team Coach John Durnin boasts an illustrious playing career, starting his youth career at Liverpool before going on to make 161 appearances for Oxford United and 181 for Portsmouth. Durnin also spent time at Carlisle United, Kidderminster Harriers, Port Vale and Accrington Stanley. Alan Lewer said “I’m delighted to be joining up with John and Mark to become Southport Football Club’s First Team Manager. We are working closely together to build the squad for the forthcoming season and are both confident that we will be competing at the right end of the table.” Director James Treadwell said: “The calibre of applications we received for the role was particularly impressive and we’re confident we now have a management team in place who can bring success and passion back to the club.
