They will have performed a miracle if they keep us from relegation. Let's hope they can pull the chestnuts out of the fire and do even better. After all what we are told, by some, that it just normal practice to allow a squad to be decimated each year. If it is then what is the point of trying to improve. Let's play friendlies all the time. I still say a football club should be run as business if it is going move forward, whether it is run by Trustee supporters or a single owner. 53 seasons Posted June 16, 2017 Share Posted June 16, 2017 I too am saddened to see the loss of key players, particularly Crook and Shulton. However we need to remember that at the start of the season we did not have six of what became our final regular squad but still managed to get a side together over the season which made the play offs. The new management team have a hard job getting off to the good start we all know we need and much will now depend on the quality of players they are able to bring in. Keep the faith, COYT. I WOULD LOVE IT if it all went tits up and they were relegated and even more enjoyable if we took their place.... that's two things to look forward to this season ? The view that I am trying to put is that whether you are owned by a Multi millionaire or a Supporter Trust you still have to try and run it's affairs on business principles. One of those principles is to try and protect your main product. In our case, maintaining a football team. Having consolidated our tenure in the 99yr lease for the ground I repeated my query of last year as to what, if any, steps were been taken to ensure we retain certain players, by way of short term contracts. I do not consider that this is moaning. You take the view that it is idiotic to even suggest such a thing, fair enough!!!!! Consequently we can only hope that our new manager can use his contacts so as to avoid a disaster. If not......lets wait and see. Having seen an Enfield team since 1947, except during Nat Service and when I played myself, I don't recall a debacle like the one we find ourselves in and I've seen some whilst putting into administration several football league clubs. Presumably he will be keeping a nucleus of the conference side. So he is hardly having to look around and start from scratch. Assuming that to be the case some of his signing may spend a long time on the bench but I suppose the extra money will compensate for that. What disappoints me is that it almost seems as if the position was premeditated before the season had ended. Consequently, I find some of the crocodile tears being expressed by some of the leavers, a little hard to accept. But that's the cynic in me. PPotential Posted June 16, 2017 Share Posted June 16, 2017 Seems to be a bit of doom and gloom about players leaving and there not being much news of new signings. Players always leave when managers leave clubs. The new management team have a lot of experience. So I would be surprised if they couldn’t get a good squad together. Infact I'm sure they'll have a better start to the season than what we saw last season. Even with the disastrous start of season that Brad had. He still managed to sneak into the playoffs and credit to him for that. If Andy has even a slightly better start, it is possible we could reach the playoffs again. Just incase nobody can remember the start of last season. By the middle of November we had only won six league games. We were out of the FA Cup & FA Trophy, plus we got battered 4-1 by Hornchurch in the Alan Turvey Trophy I think we have an experienced management team that can do well. But lets see. I wonder what would have happened had Town won the play-offs. Braintree would still have been looking for a manager and been able to offer a larger budget etc. I have little doubt they would still have come calling for Brad, and I think he still would've taken the job....and then the same players would've followed him.
