Dorking Wanderers release statement on new stadium delay

Following the announcement by Mole Valley District Council reporting a delay to the opening of the new stadium at Meadowbank, Dorking Wanderers FC has issued the following statement:

Mole Valley District Council has recently informed Dorking Wanderers FC that their work on building the new stadium at Meadowbank has been delayed until early November. This is due to unforeseeable extra preparation work for the artificial pitch.

As anchor tenant for the new clubhouse, and the local football community’s lead representatives in the project, the club is in regular communication with both the Council and Surrey County FA and has been able to put contingencies in place for all our teams for the coming season. The relevant league bodies have been informed and have been cooperative.

The first team will begin its inaugural season in the Bostik Premier Division at Westhumble in August and, with Meadowbank still on track to open this year, there is no threat to the club's place in this prestigious league.

Plans have also been made as a matter of priority for the new Dorking Wanderers FC Academy ensuring there will be no disruption to the education, training and fixtures for the young students joining the club.

With Dorking Wanderers ready to maximise the facilities at Meadowbank for the benefit of the whole town and fielding six teams with significant new community involvement in the coming season, the delay is of course highly challenging both logistically and financially. But any understandable disappointment has to be seen in the context of the fact that Dorking is still on the verge of getting a fantastic new state of the art stadium that will provide a boost to the local area for decades to come. It will be well worth the slight wait.
