littlehampton Posted August 30, 2017 Share Posted August 30, 2017 The FA CUP comes to Enfield this Saturday and, with no Premier League games being played, it's a great opportunity for everyone to show local pride, and bring family and friends to the Queen Elizabeth Stadium, to cheer on local side Enfield Town against Harrow Borough.The winners of this match will receive £3000 from the Emirates FA CUP prize fund, and a place in the next round with a further £4500 at stake.Both teams will be very keen to win this match. Harrow have made a good start to the new season, taking maximum points from their opening four league fixtures. That was before Bank Holiday Monday, when they travelled to Hendon and got a very rude awakening, on the wrong end of a 6-0 thrashing. Not the kind of result wished for five days before a major cup encounter.!Form and early season league results count for very little in one-off cup competitions, where teams raise their game, a home draw can be a definite advantage, and why unexpected shock results occur very season. littlehampton Posted August 31, 2017 Author Share Posted August 31, 2017 LS don't doubt for one moment how tough it's going to be on Saturday, but after our woeful showings in the FA Cup and FA Trophy last season, I am sure Andy Leese and our players will be more than aware how important progress in these competitions is to the Club from a financial point of view. Identifying player improvement opportunities is a gradual process in our transitional situation. Not trying to put the mockers on our start of the season but only one defeat from 6 games, average crowds are up and in the FA Cup draw on Monday . littlehampton Posted September 3, 2017 Author Share Posted September 3, 2017 Well said PocketRocket, couldn't agree more.Yesterday we saw an exciting FA Cup tie, against a side better than Harlow, who pushed us all the way. Sure, there were mistakes, lost possession, chances which went begging, etc but our guys rolled up their sleeves, competed well against a physical Harrow side, and in the end got their just reward. When the visitors equalised, direct from a free kick, just outside the penalty box, late in the game, a replay at Earlsmead looked on the cards, but Town dug deep and Simon Thomas popped up with the winner, his second goal of the game, two minutes from the end of normal time.Congratulations and very well done to manager Andy Leese and our players on getting us through to the next round. We were without Aaron Greene, and influential skipper Mark Kirby yesterday, but we are continuing to show definite signs of improvement as we grind out results. There is still some way to go, work in progress, etc but we are getting there. Andy worked his cup magic again yesterday, and we are in the next round draw tomorrow. Let's hope it is kind to us! Might not have been pretty at times but things are beginning to come together and, importantly, we're in the next round of the FA Cup. I was as critical of Simon Thomas as anybody yesterday but, fair play to him, he popped up with both goals and if he can continue scoring we'll all be happy with that. Ryan Blake did look sharp alongside him but my man of the match was Mario Noto - fitness improving with every game he plays and worked his socks off yesterday. Aaron Greene was on the bench at Chelmsford yesterday - I hope that was just because they didn't want him cup tied. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

We're still giving the opposition too much of the ball but we do look threatening whenever we go forward. Can't argue with 3 wins in a row and hope we put in a similar shift against Hanwell Town in the next round. I am sure Andy Leese is looking for another forward now that Ralston Gbriel has left - let's hope we get a good player in. Good luck and here's to a decent cup run!
