FF News
Less than a year ago, Alfie May was turning out for Hythe Town at Step 4 - last night he lined up against the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Jack Wilshere and Olivier Giroud at Emirates Stadium. The 24-year-old forward found himself taking on a FIFA World Cup winner in German defender Per Mertesacker as Doncaster Rovers took on Arsenal in the third round of the Carabao Cup in North London. May, who turned professional in joining Rovers (then of League Two) back in January, played 76 minutes of the tie, with only a 25th-minute strike from Theo Walcott separating Arsene Wenger's side and Darren Ferguson's League One charges. May netted three goals in 16 appearances for the South Yorkshire club in the latter months of last season and has hit four in 11 games this time around, with half coming in the league.
