Town v Hendon

That was a cracking game of two halves ! The first half was end to end all out attack by both sides with Sam Youngs finishing one of countless good moves by Town. The second half, whether by choice or force, we were camped in our own half whilst a VERY good Hendon team threw everything at us. We defended our goal superbly and Joe Wright calmly dealt with anything that came his way.

The words on everybody's lips were Montell Moore. I think that we've just found Corey Whiteley's replacement ! I'd love to see him start alongside Blake on Saturday !

Very, very good win. Looking forward to Saturday already.

Hendon fan here - thought you thoroughly deserved the win, especially with your defensive performance in the second half. It was simply outstanding and you just didn't allow us to really break into the 18 yard box, meaning that we had very few real clear cut chances. Mario Noto and Darren Purse were excellent, and marshalled the back four. Everytime we had the ball near the 18 yard box there seemed to be a multitude of white shirts around us.

Good luck in the FA Cup at Maidstone next weekend.

Thanks Steve very generous of you... Purse was indeed outstanding... with the attacking line up we had it must have seemed awkward for the likes of Green and young to spend the majority of the second half around their own box but the team spirit and will to win that game really showed how Andy is getting this team to gel.... would love to see Moore threading balls through for Blakey to run on to but no doubt Blakey has to control his emotions when getting in threatening positions... some of his control and shooting is woeful at these times....

Best opposition/ETFC performance/game of football I've seen at QEII. Thoroughly enjoyed it, quality entertainment. Roll on Maidstone!

Fantastic game last night between two fully committed teams. Town were first class and more than held their own, which is noteworthy as Hendon were a very strong team. I can see why they were second in the table.

Blackman, Noto and Youngs make for a solid midfield with a good balance of steel and style. The first half in particular was all out, free-flowing, attacking football from both sides - a really good advert for the quality of non-league football at this level. One piece of trickery/skill from Montell Moore, when he controlled a high ball at pace, then spun, leaving the defender in his wake, was sublime.

As other posters have noted, the second half was backs to the wall stuff. Hendon had an awful lot of possession and threatened throughout, with genuine pace both up front and through the wing backs. The Hendon right back (no. 2 I think?) in particular was lightning quick. But Town defended to a man and every pass or shot near the penalty area was blocked/intercepted/cleared one way or another. Joe Wright secure whenever shots or headers did come in. Fantastic team effort and a well deserved 3 points for the Town.

I am more impressed with Ryan Blackman game by game. Good, no nonsense communicator and leads by example. I like watching players who keep it simple. Surprisingly strong in the air - times his jumps really well and seems to hang in the air. Reminds me of David Speedie (time will tell if Blackman also has the Speedie ability to irritate the opposition ;-) ). Great signing.

Very pleased with the way the team is gelling, and the improvement in the quality of football we play. Long may it continue!!

Magic performance last night when it all seemed to come together against very good opposition.

Even following the improved performances of recent weeks I don't think there were too many expecting a showing of such quality. Outstanding performances all over the pitch and players working their socks off for each other, some running themselves into the ground. Expect they'll be a few sore, but immensely proud, limbs this morning.

Despite SteveR's generous comments, Hendon will be disappointed not to have taken something from the game. That rearguard action in the last 20 mins or so was superb - the defenders  to a man stood firm and when Hendon did get through Joe Wright was on hand as usual. Most pleasing was seeing the likes of Aaron Greene mucking in to do the ugly parts of the game.

Sam Youngs was awarded a well deserved man of the match but there were several other worthy candidates too. Great to see Montell Moore showing that spark of quality against top opposition - could be a top player if he works as hard as did last night and listens to the experienced management team around him. Best game yet for Ryan Blackman too.
