Amersham Town

Recommended Posts

Pleasently happy with the progress that Amersham Town FC have made this Season. Another win yesterday sees them steadily rising up the table. They have brought in a real football man to manage the side who has intriduced some good players to the club and he has also introduced a very young u18 side to the club most of whom are 16 & look capable of good things in the coming years.

The future could be bright at last for Amersham

Rather than start a new thread on Amersham Town I noticed there was an old one still open. Photographs from when they travelled to Lowfield for a SSML Division One fixture on 5 January 2013 so a bit after the Lord Mayor's Show, Hoddesdon Town won 2-0 on their way to promotion to the Premier Division that 2012/13 campaign with goals from Ben Andreos and Gary Simmonds:

Retaining last season's top scorer Reon Thomas is a big signing for the club.

I see that Amersham Town were awarded funding for a new Clubhouse and work has started in earnest although I will be surprised if it is ready for the forthcoming 2020/21 campaign:

Town awarded grant towards rebuild of clubhouse

Simon Damery, Chairman of Amersham Town Football Club, welcomed today’s announcement of a grant of £55,000 by the HS2 Community & Environment Fund towards the replacement of part of Amersham Town’s clubhouse.

Simon explained, “Half of our clubhouse is brick built but the other half is an old wooden construction. It was originally a school classroom before it was moved to our ground in 1968 so is probably close to one hundred years old. As a result, in spite of our best efforts, it is in a bad state, rotting in places, requiring constant and expensive maintenance and lacking some modern facilities. We therefore realised that we would have to replace it with a solidly constructed building, including new toilets.”

Simon added, “While, as an amateur club, we are financially healthy expensive construction work such as this is well beyond our means. We have therefore been delighted that the HS2 Community & Environment Fund, managed by Groundwork UK, have made this award. Amersham is a town which will be affected by the construction of HS2 and it is good that support such as this will ensure that our community facilities are sustainable in the long term.
Together with funding of £100.000 provided by the Football Stadia Improvement Fund, supported by the Premier League, we are now able to complete the building. We do not yet know when the next season will start but, whenever it is, we will have facilities of which we can be proud and which will be a long term asset for the people of Amersham.

Amersham Town have also been awarded a £2,500 pitch preparation grant from the Football Foundation, the grant can be used towards the cost of materials for work such as verti-draining, chain harrowing, rolling, over-seeding, fertilising, weed-killing, and routine preparation such as grass cutting and the setting out and line-marking of pitches:

Sorry folks, it's him again but highlights from Amersham Town's pre-season friendly fixture on Tuesday (Tuesday 11 August 2020) at nearby Hellenic League Division Two East side Chalfont Wasps in what looked like a very good performance from Dwaine Bryan's men at The Nest on a sweltering evening. Amersham Town won 5-1 with Chalfont Wasps getting a late consolation goal:
