Leatherhead v Town

Oh dear oh dear. What an inept display. No skill, little organisation and little effort. There has been no progress over the past three weeks, we can’t keep living on the displays against Maidstone, we have been woeful since. The players are simply not good enough. We don’t seem to be able to pass the ball to our own team and there have been too many stupid mistakes, some of which have been bizarre. Either AL has no idea what he wants from this team or they are ignoring him. Today’s display was totally unacceptable and embarrassing to watch. How much longer do we gave to endure, what is the worst quality football I can remember an Enfield Town team dish up. What hope can we be given ? Some changes are needed and quick!

Being indisposed still the last two comments did not make happy reading.  Mainly because they contained similar observations I made on the first game of the season.. I believe Vman you said at the time I was being far to negative.  I don't hold that against you as even I expected

some improvement in the following 6/7 games. But we have now played twice as many and what has been said over the past few weeks, the Maidstone episode excepted, makes me afraid that my original comments are coming home to roost.

I said at the time that what I had seen that day was not what I expected from an Enfield team. I inferred that the players were not good enough and I don't feel any satisfaction that MTHead echos my views some 3 months later.

It seems that AL is content with his team and the way they play,if not, why does he tolerate it each week. If Kirby is not going to play within the next month or so then it sounds that we will need another central defender.

Unless he starts to show some intent to improve the squad I feel the Board may have to consider the position. After all they dealt quickly with Steve Newing to bring in George Borg. Was his team and organisation any worse than the current fiasco.

Ofcourse, another point of view would be to wait and see if our games in hand make a difference. At the moment we have an average of about 3 games over several teams which, unless we start winning, will soon evaporate and we will be down among the dead men, then what?

I don’t know what to say about current performances and actions of the management.

Defensively we are being found wanting. Just how much longer until Kirby returns and how much longer can we play with Darren Purse in defence?

No Greene today was a big loss as we had no natural width in the team.

Attacking wise, we are lookin so inept. Benyon clearly is not fit and is lacking confidence in front of goal. We are not getting any goals from midfield and we have no natural goalscorer in the team. Why bring Liam back and not play him?

Looking at the bench today we had nothing to bring on of any quality. Although I do think Steve Wales should be given a start.

AL and the management just seem very distant from the supporters which is something that with the previous management was not the case. I can’t seem to get a sense of the direction this team is going.

I was not at the game today so cannot comment on how the team played. However, I stood and watched an inept performance on Tuesday when we were lucky to get a draw.

Some people will come on here and say AL had a tough time getting a squad together in a short period of time and the club has a small budget in comparison to others. Other managers do it and other teams have smaller budgets.

Time to make changes in the way we play and important decisions need to be taken as we have a few tough games coming up. However, a win will only paper over the cracks.

Come on guys, don't let the supporters down.

The key to good leadership (AL and the board) is to self evaluate. They need to accept the team is not working at the moment and recognise why, be brave enough to make changes, despite who it upsets. I hope AL is given the opportunity to prove his skills as a manager and not just “moved on” because that will just atagonise the situation more. I believe AL should be given the season to prove his ability, but to do that, he needs to make changes, use the rest of the squad, give any potential youngsters a good go and communicate with the fans.

The players must accept responsibility when they go on to the field. If they dont do what AL wants, then they need to sort themselves out. Case in point on Tuesday was when Wright took a free kick inside his own half and had a go at goal! Now something like that is not coached on the training ground.

Thanks VxMan, I am afraid I still have a while to go, but do have some respite until late January and hope to get out soon and watch for myself what is happening. But that's enough about me.

Reading all others comments it seems to me that someone has to say something at the AGM. But who ever it is they must have the support of like minded members. I think the club is at the cross road and decisions must be taken. If we start going backwards now, it will be very hard to come back.

Andy says that the players have to take response ability, ofcourse he is right but the players have to also be good enough to know what to do. By mutual consensus it seems that a lot of supporters don't think they have the ability to know what is wrong.

In reply to Castorman, I did say 4 months ago that I understood that AL was not very approachable, especially if given criticism or questioned about his methods. The words used were actually, " very arrogant when approached ".

Quite a while before that I also said, what good is it having a 99 year lease on a splendid ground if you haven't got the team to support it. All the good work by so many cannot be wasted by the ineptness of a few. Sorry... I am getting all profound now!!!!! But I do feel strongly about the current situation.

I must say again that if we don't take advantage of our games in hand then we will be up the creek. I also think if it is decided to stay with the status quo then,  forget playoffs this year, we have to stay in this league so as to take part in the reshuffle and reorganise next year.

I agree, players and leaders need to take responsibility. It’s a shame, I have moved around uk over my many years, been to many footballs clubs/games and I can honestly say that the supporters at ETFC are some of the best and loyal I’ve come across, let’s hope the board/AL/players listen to them now.

4WF SAID. and I don't feel any satisfaction that MTHead echos my views some 3 months later.

Oh yes you do... your whole post was full of a misguided smugness .... misguided because you for some reason thought that there was an abundance of young talent all good Ryman premier standard all waiting to join ETFC and AL missed out on them all.... There wasn't...He got in players quickly to do a job and they did.... yes the last few games have been awful and as VM said the negative set up is not helping... but if AL got sacked tomorrow I wouldn't say he did a bad job.....

the problem for me is midfield we just dont create enough chances for our strikers think we created 3 chances yesterday which isnt good enough when you have 2 midfielders that play the same way as in blackman and martin there job is to break play up from the opposition which they do well thats fine but we need creative players who attack and help the forwards noto and youngs did not do that the way the manager sets the team out is to negative for me how can you get anything when you dont create chances need to up our game otherwise supporters will not come to watch when they are not being entertained
