FF News
Elated Workington Reds boss Lee Andrews hailed his troops as they spectacularly dumped National League Hartlepool United out of the FA Trophy. Reds recorded a major cup upset as Pools went under 1-0 at Borough Park, thanks to a superb volley from Scott Allison. Andrews praised every member of the squad, which included Conor Tinnion, Dave Symington, Josh Calvert, Anthony Wright, Dan Wordsworth and Matty Douglas who all began their careers with Carlisle United, for their efforts and determination that put Reds into today's second-round draw. "What can you say? The work, the commitment, everything from the lads was fantastic," said co-manager Andrews, who recorded his own first victory against Hartlepool after several attempts as a player. "We were against a full-time team, a stronger team, and they looked the fitter team and then came that goal which was just fantastic. "We said before the game they would be low on confidence whereas we have now gone 14 games unbeaten. We knew they would find it difficult to come to a place like this on a cold day. "It had all the ingredients of a cup upset and we said to the lads if they started the game properly, at a good tempo, and on the front foot, we would cause them problems and it showed on the day."
