Ash Trees 4-2 Marlow

Recommended Posts

Two successive home wins in 4 days saw the Tangerines move up to 7th place in the table. An indifferent start to the game which saw Ashford concede a strange goal  when an inswinging corner was caught by Tyler Tobin but unfortunately the assistant referee flagged for a goal saying that Tyler and the ball had crossed the line, not too many Ashford supporters supported this claim. Despite having a few openings in the remainder of the half Marlow preserved their lead until half time.

The second half saw Marlow believing they had a second but a combination of Mitchell Gough and Nathan Pooley saw the Tangerines shepherd the ball away to safety much to the annoyance of the Marlow bench who felt the ball had already crossed the line. This escape galvanized the boys and it started the Ashford goal rush. Firstly, Alex Fisher was adjudged to had been bought down in the area and was awarded a penalty. The Marlow keeper then decided to change his boots, gloves, shin pads and anything else he could find, this took an eternity, as we know Alex Fisher has a cool head and he didn't allow this blatant gamesmanship effect him and he comfortably scored the penalty. Minutes later Dan Fleming put the Tangerines ahead after the Marlow keeper (new attire on) pushed away Tommy Brunton's strike, Flem ran onto the ball and drove his shot across the keeper and into the corner of the net. Ashford were now well on top and a little deft flick by Weighty put James Cottee through on goal whose strike hit the underside of the bar and bounced into the roof of the net. We added a fourth when Dan Fleming crossed the ball and Scott Weight improvised another back flick which found it's way in the corner of the net. Another strike hit the underside of the bar as Ashford threatened to run riot. The last few minutes Marlow scored a deflected free kick but Ashford saw the remaining minutes out to record a 4-2 victory. A good performance in the second half where all the players stood up and bought about the Ashford comeback. Up next Aylesbury United away on Saturday.
